I've never sold a car before so I'm starting here and would appreciate constructive criticism and advice (and offers!). My dad bought this car brand new and he passed it down to me in 2010 after he bought his second Prius. He and I both agreed that we have never had a more reliable car. As noted above I bought a new CC + anti-theft shield in March 2021 [after some virulent pustule stole the original CC on Valentine's Day] The car runs great, has not been in any crashes although it has minor cosmetic damage to the passenger side rear quadrant due to some dork backing into me. Also it has no spare tire thanks to some tire store guy who didn't put it back after I bought tires from him. (Unfortunately I didn't notice this until very recently.) The carpet is scruffy between the pedals and the driver's seat, and the interior doesn't look brand new but it's really not bad at all for a 16 year-old car. The license plate tags expired at the end of June and ideally I will be able to sell it without renewing them. The only reason I'm (reluctantly) selling this car is because my Dad left me his 2015 Prius in his will, and I don't need two cars (and I only have one covered parking space). So I'm selling the 2005 and I would love your opinions on what would be a reasonable yet appealing asking price. I will consider any reasonable offer once I determine how to recognize one. I plan to have the car detailed tomorrow and will take pictures afterward and add them here if that's possible and allowed. I just set up a separate Gmail account for communication about the car: PJSPRIUS. Feel free to post advice/criticism/offers/questions here or email them to me at that address. I would be so grateful for any helpful advice because I am not a gearhead and have never even dated one. Thanks!

that's a nice car. start at kbb.com for private sale value. we are in a really hot market for used cars right now, so your timing is perfect.
you can also call some car services i believe, like carmax or carvana for an offer. ideally, a potential buyer would be able to take it for a test drive, so i'm not sure about the tags.
    all the best!(y)

Thanks! I'd never even heard of kbb so I'll definitely check it out tonight. And I was thinking exactly the same thing about the expired plates and test drives. Although (I suspect as a consequence of Covid) I see expired plates everywhere these days when I drive around town. Some far more expired than mine. It seems the police have granted everyone an indefinite grace period for license plate renewals.
Thanks for the reply and the encouragement!
    Also
the Colorado license plate is 318VRH
    and
    the VIN is JTDKB22U057015868
which I will post elsewhere too but I just thought I'd throw that information in here in case anyone is looking for it in the meantime

No I stopped trying to sell it after I posted that because I thought my brother wanted it. I've given up on letting him have it because he has a lot of cars anyway and he won't commit and he lives three hours away blah blah so it's still for sale. If you're still in the market how would we best get in touch? The Gmail account I set up has caused me log-in problems so I stopped checking it but I just saw youir note on the wemail Prius Chat has for me. I'll wait to hear from and check that regularly until I do. Sorry about the delay in replying; I have been remiss.

Okay last one I promise but I will check here daily at the very least from now on in case you or anyone else is still looking. I'm moving so I'd love to sell the car and get that done. You can contact me at CalamitousApt at gmail too but here is probably better. I'd love to sell the car and get that done before move so I"m not looking for top dollar despite the $3900 new CC + shield.
Those shields seem to work great BTW; I highly recommend them.

Yes but I thought it was stolen. When I called to report it I found out it had been towed (!) because plates were expired so TMI I know but I am just so MAD at the predatory towing around here*
It's now at the dealership getting a new 12V battery and I'm thinking of just selling it to them because I have a sick dog that's going to run me in the thou$and$.
    I have to decide today.
So the answer to your question is currently YES.
Please forgive bloviation. Thanks for asking

For the record that article is not about me but it is about the towing company that towed my car, Park It Right which now apparently is hilariously DBA

UPDATE 3:30 PM MST 1/21/22: MY 2005 Prius is no longer available. I sold it to Stevinson Toyota. [Please, Don't Even A$k.]
Should I delete this whole thread now? Or leave it here for posterity? :) I can find that out myself, probably.
At any rate, as they used to say in the Bartles & Jaymes commercials: Thank You For Your Support*
