Ford Maverick - folks starting to post their "mpg challenge" results.

67 miles does not an EPA rating make EPA is 42 and that's great! (for a pickup) but if the dash reads 29 electric miles? that must have been a serious downhill area for a hybrid - that they picked for a picture. how many posts - here on PC do we have where a newbie posts a picture of driving 40 or 50 miles - nice weather - clear day on a nice downward slope. "Look! ... 100mpg" yea - not.

 

The electric miles displayed is no different than the percent electric the Prius displays. Both are probably better described as time engine was off. Not a metric I'd focus on, as trying to increase the electric side could lead in inefficiency overall in charging the battery. The amount of electric miles here could be a sign that the truck does an auto pulse and coast while in cruise.

While a single trip isn't a true measure of the vehicles fuel economy, it can show potential. Florida isn't known for its hills, so going downhill likely wasn't a big cause for the results. A tail wind could be a factor, but then tires aren't broken in yet. They were going "Prius" slow for those results.

Shame it can't be had with AWD.

I’ve managed 65mpg OVER A TANK in my C-Max so FORD’s system responds well to hyper-miling and not a parlor trick. I expect the Maverick’s hybrid 3.x system will work even better. Like the C-max, its the high Cd at higher speeds that kills the overall FE. In town (speeds under 60mph), these things will rock.

They’re available. I’ve seen ‘em on the streets even here in rural south Texas. Maybe at a price (grins)..... but unlike other manufacturers, FORD did make and deliver the $20,000 base XL hybrid along with all the upper hybrid and ICE trims; no waiting for demand to wane for the most profitable trims.

We hoped that ordering a loaded Lariat would move us to the front of the line but still waiting 8 months later.

Much better than my last tank at 26MPG. I'm going to continue being conservative with
my driving and hopefully I'll be close to the 40's for the next fill up.”

 

i4 is a garbage commute... you're either doing 85mph or stopped for the last burning car crash that happened a mile past the last exit...

but
its flat and straight, you could easily get 60mpg in a Prius there, so if the Ford truck is getting 50 that's pretty good but not going to be typical of hilly terrain

 

Just remember that in-car mpg values are overly optimistic...

 

mine matches the pump/calculator to within 1mpg normally.

I record tracks with Gps the majority of the time I'm driving... the odometer is very close on distance traveled also.

 

It varies by manufacturer. So can be quite close to tank calculated. Gerdes reports on the difference in his reviews at CleanMPG.

The delivery map shows 90% NON-Hybrids with most of the hybrid deliveries in CARB

I do not know of a single Hybrid delivery in Wisconsin.

Im tempted to drive 600 miles to pick up a hybrid Maverick as I tire of my nickel and dime 2001 Dodge that lacks competent HD replacement parts

I can’t find a first drive review by Gerdes that reports on the Mavericks real world economy nor the EPA Fuel economy cross over speed for the Maverick

Yeah with under 1200 hybrids on the road I would bet that’s a big problem

 

He's had the Escape hybrid. It should be close to the Maverick.
