This thread needs this picture, but my keyboard didn't need the Dr. Pepper I nose blasted on it when I saw it the first time, though.
I only see "IPB Image" but no link or picture in Firefox 2.0 on Macintosh, although I can see the picture inline using Safari. Anybody else have this problem ? I have Java, Javascript, and auto picture load enabled.

2 days ago it would have looked like a sign of desperation and would have confirmed voters' choices of the Dems. 2 MONTHS ago with a strong replacement suggesting changes and increased troops temporarily before a withdrawl, etc. etc..... That may have been enough to swing these closer states...at least the Senate. The cries for him to be ousted have been going on for much longer than that, but falling upon deaf ears. The republicans have no one to blame, but themselves, for this loss.

As a person who voted for them way back when, I can tell you that I am very satisfied with the results from yesterdays election. I believe they strayed away from my desires for them - a small Federal government, lower or flat taxes, states rights trumpeting judicial fiat, smaller government spending, etc. It is the same way I felt when Hamas won their elections earlier this year - not a great analogy. If this does not wake them up, nothing will. On the other hand, it is better that it happened in an "off year" election than during the Presidential election cycle. We will see if they get the message. On the other hand I am impressed with how the Dems are handling themselves. My hope - a middle ground is reached and we can move forward on all fronts, especially Iraq and the War on Terror. Rummy stepping down is a good thing - 6 years is tooo long. Gates seems to be a good man for the position at first glance. Also good is that both parties now have a stake in governing - it is never good for one party to controll all three branches.
I hope this election creates lingering memories in the leadership of both parties. Whenever one gets a bit too full of itself and stops listening to the minority party, and even to the press to some extent, someone should say "Whoa, slow down guys...remember '06?!" The beauty of our system is how quickly we can 'bitch-slap' the party in power and bring them around to reason. I have no illusions of longer term 'peace' b/w the parties and pretty much see the word 'bipartisan' as a campaign tool rather than part of the real vocabulary of anyone in power. But, hope springs eternal!
