Neighbor's Prius catalytic converter stolen tonight

I just ordered it. Says it will take a week but hopefully I get it sooner. I haven't called up my mechanic to see if he can install it but regardless, I'll call around and find the best price. The piece of mind will be worth it. I'm in Santa Ana and have read of some thefts a few cities over so even though I do have a gen 3, I am still at risk for someone that really wants it. This defender will hopefully deter any scumbags. If anyone has any recommendations in the area, let me know.

 

Had my gen 2 cat stolen late last year, now there have been more thefts on my residential street.
Since I just ordered a cat shield, my anxiety has skyrocketed while waiting for it to arrive and to get installed.
Didn't have any anxiety before I ordered it, people are funny.
I'm going to give it a go myself, it looks like a fun project.

 

Mine shows out for delivery. Now to find a place that will install it. I am going to ask my mechanic if he does this kind of thing but this might be something I have to call around for to find the best price. Did everyone here just call local muffler shops? Mechanics? What place is best for this kind of thing?

 

At least one of the big mfg had a list of local installers on their web site, which means they are familiar with the process of these virtually identical guards. Regardless of where you bought your 'guard' just go to the top suppliers and find a local installer. That's what I'm going to do if I can't handle the DIY job.

 

Check if your local car shops are offering free vin or serial number engraved onto cata converters for free. Heard a shop offered it last weekend.

 

Came in the mail today. Local shop quoted $120 to install. I called up my mechanic but he couldn't give me a quote on the phone so I will go there tomorrow. I'm gonna ask if he can also paint the cat and see if they do the engraving. I'll go to my local shop if my mechanic wants more than $120.

 

Installed. My mechanic also quoted me $120 so I just had him do it. I can sleep easy knowing the cat defender will make it tougher for the scumbags.

Odd that they don't have photos/description of their attachment hardware. They don't say whether the plates are removeable.
