My only issue 2022 Prius Prime , hesitating to order

My (overpriced?) 2¢:

This might not be the best time to shop for a new vehicle, especially if one has a decent car now and cannot afford a new one without leasing or financing. Rings of the "how much can 'ya afford a month" mind set. We all want enjoyment as we trudge along, but a balance in life isn't a bad thing. Sorta' nice to live life on the plus side of the ledger. Keep the old car a tad longer and pocket the savings instead of giving it to a bank.

...or not. If it makes financial sense and you can afford it, then have at it!

 

Love my 2011. It was a dog off the lot so be advised the battery is most likely not charged. I regreted buying mine on the drive home but once it was charged the first time and broke it in it was and is a very high quality Prius.
Yes, the display is not safe to play with while driving. I always have to look and find where stuff is located, but if it is your only car you will be fine (navigation is awesome).
I very seldom charge it as 72-74ish MPG is good enough for me. But if you need that power then charge it.

As far as limited hatch cargo space, I always leave the two back seats down. Since the quality of this car is so great I have learned to ignore the other issues.

Also the limited has the auto stop at slow speeds in both directions as well as a full proximity sensor package.

Big however, I do not feel safe on I-4 as idiots drive with road rage all the time. I use my Highlander hybrid for I-4 trips. We live in a lawless society where people do what ever they want. I try my best to drive at 70MPH on the interstate but everyone wants to drive 80MPH. I also slow down for road and traffic issues.

If I was down to one car and I had to drive dangerous freeways everyday with idiots everywhere, I would consider a bulkier ride.

Rav 4 / Venza size or a small truck.

Another safety issue is that some of the Toyota products you have to put the vehicle in park to turn it off. Jumping back and forth between my 2 vehicles was a problem as most quality hybrids you just push the button and you are done.

 

merging happens just like every other 4 banger:
pick your opening and floor it to match speed.... not really a big deal

 

The OP is in Canada. He is stating, he gets the same $2500 EV rebate either on PP or on BMW 330e. Also, he already said he'd rather have the base model (the equivalent of LE in the US) to avoid dealing with the large screen. So, the difference in price is likely to be larger than you described?

Actually, good luck finding anything these days: yesterday our nearby dealership has TWO new vehicles in stock, a highlander and a GR86. See this morning the highlander is sold, lol.

OP - your post is so outlandish that it screams "troll". You but a Prius b/c they are amazingly efficient, reliable, and a great value.
Also, unless your cars were modified, many didn't crack 6 seconds for 0-60, unless you're talking km/h

Again, screams like a troll post. Feel free to buy a BMW if the extra cost is worth going "faster". I do not know, I've grown up and realize that 1) there's always someone faster 2) I rarely have the need to go WOT, so why purchase a vehicle for the 0.5% of the time you're at full HP?

 

You're getting a loan for a car?! Oh my. Why do you want to buy a car that costs more? It's driving you deeper indebt. Full overage, interest, oh boy. You'd better get the Prius. And make it last. BMW doesn't last. Do what you want. I have zero debt. House is paid off too. I save 75% of my yearly income. Do what makes you happy.

Coming from the world of sport touring motorcycles, it's been impossible to find a car under 1/4 million dollars that would impress me with its acceleration -- until the Tesla, that is.

 

Actually from a dead stop, in EV mode, it takes off pretty quickly to around 25MPH, lol. My friend even said "this thing moves!?" and I said yeah, to about 30mph.

 

My hesitation now would be lack of all-electric range, not acceleration. Toyota must at least double battery capacity with the next refresh.

 

You should not knock it if you haven't tried it. I posted a quick informal survey on this forum to ask whether 25 miles was sufficient range for people who were using the car as it was intended; I.E. charge daily and not used for commercial purposes or for inter region commuting. Most had no problem with the 25 to 30 mile range that the Prius Prime provided. Several indicated that they would not mind just a little bit bigger battery but even they said it was not a deal breaker.

 

Yup! And I absolutely LOVE driving my Prime. I look for excuses to drive it.

Hole shots are fun! It's no Tesla, but it sure has torque down low. Even at 45 mph, it'll burst to 65 in the blink of an eye.

If they doubled the EV range, I'd never get gas, so they might as well give it 200-300 miles and lose the engine. I'm over 90% EV as it is. Over 2,100 miles so far this tank with over 3/8 tank left.

 

Have hole shots been mentioned in this thread yet? For the uninitiated, that's the quick jump off the line in order to change lanes. As Jerry and Storm88000 said the prime is quick off the line, allowing you to quickly get ahead of most cars by several car lengths by the time you hit 30 MPH.

If, by some quirk of chance, the guy next to you outruns you off the line, just tap the brakes and slip in behind him. One technique or the other works every time. Don't get me wrong, you will not win a race against any of the 3 second 0-60 class cars. But if they are not trying to race you the odds are in your favor.

 

Found an excuse today, in fact. Took an old printer to Best Buy for recycling. That's about five miles to the north of us. I had some paper to recycle, too. The regular place is just a couple clocks away from home but wasn't available. So I took it to a place that's in a state park five or six miles to our south on a road that winds through the mangroves along the Gulf coast. Really pleasant drive once I got away from US 19. Still had over eight miles of battery left when I got home and got 5.6 miles/kWh. (Left home with less than a full charge.)

Off topic addition: I pulled into the local Toyota dealership just to see what they had on the new car lot. Pretty much all used cars there.
