Greetings, after much troubleshooting and deciding the path on repair, I have decided to change out the module. However, finding the module part number and a good source is a challenge. Also, does anyone have a good procedure on changing out the module? From what I read, one basically tears out the rear to get access to the battery, Then the battery goes on a workbench. I was wondering because of the weight whether the work can be done in place? Any suggestions are appreciated. Btw, I checked a large automotive shop and no signs of hyprid modules. Thanks.
While it may be possible, there is also the consideration of the serious hazards involved, which may favor working where you will have the greatest visibility and comfort, and be less likely to work in awkward, cramped, or uncomfortable conditions putting your safety at risk. Other members have developed simple techniques (no more than, say, a couple of wooden boards and a wheeled cart) for dealing with the weight, in order to get the battery to where it can be worked on in comfort and safety.
If you can lift a full size bag of concrete out of the back of the car, you can lift the battery pack out too... As for spare modules, anyone in the EU who sells rebuilt hybrid battery packs can sell you one. Alternatively, but more expensive, my buddy in Oregon, USA ships internationally: https://2ndlifebattery.com/about-us/
Toyota sells only complete HV batteries (or for some models, battery stack sub-assemblies); there is no Toyota service part number for an individual battery module. As far as I know, Toyota’s NiMH battery supplier (Primearth EV Energy) doesn’t sell new modules on the open market, either, which implies that any modules you might find for sale are used (but perhaps tested and selected) or from another source.
Found an assembly number for the battery module B0160BEIJ6. Found this number on Amazon for Panasonic/Toyota. Problem finding the part. Also, found a video where the work was done in place. Search enough videos and can find what one likes.
That’s Amazon’s number (ASIN) for a listing from a third-party seller, which describes the item condition as “Used.” Like many others, this seller is offering used modules salvaged from batteries that were replaced, not new modules from Toyota or another source.
True just remember you will bent over the batch of car a few hours .many stop and stretches on work bench goes much faster snatch jerk n drop on bench be at height etc . I'm 70 so over extending is getting no fun
Looking at my own nine right now staring in the trunk and when the battery cover is off no problem with the battery sitting in place with the modifications I made to the side brackets the wear it now sits it will be cumbersome and best to undo the back row of bus bar nuts so I think I'd rather at least slide it forward at minimum and bench it if I'm going to be disassembling the whole pack or unracking the cells
Thanks. Are you able to see any part number on the module? According to my test, I have a bank 9 failure. I would remove the bus bars and take voltage tests. I was planning on ordering 2 modules in advance and then do the work. I am surprised that Toyota Ansbach did not have a part number for the module. Thanks if you can get me the part number.
I will try to go out and crack a rack of sales this afternoon I've got a big delivery coming in a couple things going on but as I remember it I don't think there's any parts on the silver of the batteries I swear I don't or if there is they they get so they get so weak being together that the stamping ink goes funky or something you can't see it but I will take a look and I'll take pictures of what I have I've got at least two batteries here gen 3 and 2
There is NO part number on a module that you can use as identification to order a 'new' part. Every module has a serial number etched on the top, from which you can decode the manufacture date. Certainly, you have ebay or craigslist or some such website in Germany where you can purchase individual tested modules? I have well over a thousand, of various manufacture dates, sitting on the shelf in my shop area. I did a search on ebay Germany and it came up with these....looks like you can get them easily. Click the link and scroll down a bit. Looks like 59 or 79 euros per module. A bit pricey, but it is what it is. https://www.ebay.de/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313&_nkw=prius+hv+battery&_sacat=0 The last thing you want to do is install a NEW module into your old battery pack. You'd likely be coding out all the time. I call it the Lebron James effect....read this thread post: Inconsistent Hybrid battery readings | PriusChat
This is why I just bought a new battery and now I have a few spares if I want to take a spare and fiddle fart around with it and play games cool use that in a car I get for near nothing see what happens no love lost but in my daily driver that I need we're just going to put the battery just like a flashlight new Duracell D's fo of them in the mag light
Looks like I will be going the refurbished and tested route. Will also check and clean the battery fan.
