Hi everyone This is my first hybrid vehicle and first Prius. We were interested in getting a good car for casual driving and use our second car for long trips. We choose the Prius Prime specifically for fuel economy and because we now have solar panels on our house so a plug-in was a good alternative to a BEV. I checked with some electricians, and it would cost thousands to get L2 charging to the driveway so we're sticking with L1 cable from the garage for now. I've also order new wheels and winter tires so I'll post how those work out as well. Thanks to the mods for keeping this forum going! -Tas

Welcome and Congrats on the new purchase of PP. For PP's short range and a small battery, the nightly L1 charge works fine unless you do multiple trips of over 25 miles. I plan to install an L2 charger when I do the detached garage renovation in the future, but for the last 4+ years, I have not had a problem with just using the L1 charger.
The charger it comes with is sufficient unless you don't have the 6 hours to spare for a charge. I put mine at the 8 amp settings, so it's a bit slower.
Its sole purpose is so that it won't trip your circuit breaker if there's something else on that circuit.
Gotcha. So as long as nothing else is plugged in simultaneously, the setting is not needed? Thanks for the info - I had no idea.
I've heard that another reason there is an 8 amp option is that some older homes do not have 12 amp capability...
