Hi there.. this is my second Gen 1. I bought this one not knowing that the main battery was on its way out, but alas it failed. I had a rebuilt one put in (battery4prius ) and it has been giving me a trouble code of p3006 'battery voltage unusually different'. It is the only code I get. I have a 2 year warranty on the battery so I took it back... they said they tested the battery swapped out some cells and gave it back. A week later the same code came back. I brought it back to them and they said they swapped out the pack for another one. Again I drive it for about a week and the code comes back. That is the only code that they are able to pull and yes it is prius aware software and have no answers. Is there anything other than the battery that can throw this code??.... I am at my wits end. Thanks in advance.
DTC P3006 means that the traction battery has a problem. If you want to investigate further you would need to open up the battery case and measure the voltage of each of the 38 modules. You should find one module (or more) whose voltage is much lower than the others. Another reason for that DTC might be if the traction battery ECU has a problem. In any event, it is up to your battery supplier to figure this out under warranty. Good luck.
update: the voltage of each cell were consistent and where they should be according to the tech I talked to today. He says it might be 1 or more of the 19 sensors that may be causing the problem.
There is a code for a snapped sensor line but I don't have it handy. You might consider getting a Prius-aware scanner to read out more diagnostic data. Bob Wilson
Thanks for the reply... The scanner they use is prius aware. I cannot remember the name of the program but it reads all of the sub codes as well.
If the scanner is Prius aware drive the car and look at MinBlock Voltage, MaxBlock voltage and delta SOC in real time. If Delta SOC is 20% or more the battery is not happy. Best test is to drive uphill in reverse, that stresses the battery the most. Testing voltage at rest doesn't really tell you much. Batteries must be tested under load. Techstream is the best tool for looking at the entire pack in real time.
Can the car still run with this code? I need to go back to Green tech, they just replaced mine 2 weeks ago and go the same code
Yes the car will drive okay with a 3006 code, but it is something that needs to be taken care of sooner rather than latter.
still got the triangle of death and contacted the warranty department for my reconditioned battery, very disappointing to say the least!
