Decoding (!) 4 brake light flashes using pin jumper method

    Hi everyone,
    I was recently installing a cheap spiral cable from ebay to fix some of the buttons on the steering wheel on Prius 2006. Although i did have some issues at first connecting it and getting all the buttons to work. I was able to fix it. But (!) yellow light started to appear after 15 secs of starting the car into ready mode. I was looking here for some similar issues but was not able to find any that were specific to my problem. I did a method of connectingTC pin to TG with a 100ohm resisitor, I believe a method stated here to put the PRIUS under some sort of diagnostic mode. The dash lights start to blink like christmas tree lights and all of the lights blink fast except for (!) that blinks 4 times each time
    I guess my trouble code is (!) 44, 00, 00, 00 ,00
    I am not sure, Please help as I am trying to figure out the problem thanks

    and I also tried to put the original spiral wheel back, checking the prius lead acid battery 12.1v and reseting Normal DTC codes, no luck...

    Cheap clocksprings are known to fail, which is why some recommend OEM for this application.

    Many here will use an OBD2 reader to retrieve codes (DTCs), some even use a "mini-vci cable" and techstream (dealer level tech software).

    Which bay area metroplex are you near, as another member may be able to help with scanning your vehicle.

    Did you use and follow the service manual for the cheap spiral cable installation?

    Thanks, I am located in Fremont, CA @SFO. I will go anywhere in the bay to get this fixed :cry:, If I could just get a rough idea of what is going wrong then maybe I can fix.

    was planning to order this "mini-vci cable" from ebay as a last resort as it seems promising debug tool even in the future case.

    For cheap spiral cable installation, followed this video
    to dissemble the wheel assembly.

    For a test:
    removed connectors from the spiral wheel that were airbag, wheel defrost, auto ac, etc and put the car in ready
    this in turn still showed the solid (!) brake warning light with airbag light that seems to go away once airbag connectors gets installed.

    pulled up to autozone today and asked to borrow their obd2 scanner, they found no dtc's either,

    not sure if the cheap spiral cable messed up the something.

    also had a catalytic converter installed about a month ago. So, I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it...

    There is a 44 code for the tire pressure light (looks kind of like (!) but there are treads on the bottom), which would mean a problem with tire transmitter 4.

    There is a 44 code for the ABS light (doesn't look like (!)) that could mean an electrical problem to the acceleration sensor. I don't think a spiral cable would have affected that. It could also mean the zero point calibration of the acceleration sensor needs to be redone.

    If you have an opportunity to get the codes read with a scan tool, that might help. Codes from the brake/skid system should be readable even without the Toyota-specific tool (though that will give even more information).

    aright guys, my bad. I was looking online for what this issue might be and I remembered one thing, no matter how complex the problem may be start from troubleshooting steps from very begining, like checking fuses and retracing steps that were done on the car and make sure all wires are connected etc. And that was it actually, The the four blink codes was coming from the brake power supply control module not being connected .... The brake power supply control modules job is have backup power incase 12v lead acid battery died. It is a fail safe for brakes incase it died i think. I am so stupid, end of story... Everything works now.

    I also don't know how to decipher my blink codes. I was just given a 2010 Prius with only 24 thousand miles on it. And it runs, which I'm really excited about! I'm 17 years old and this is my first car, so sorry for any novice questions. The previous owner was a friend of our family and just wanted it gone. The car sat unused for a little over a year and had some rat poop under the hood. Also was run over a curb at one point on the front drivers side. I don't have a lot of money so I'm trying to fix as much as possible before sending it to the shop. The wire-jump blink codes I just got are:
    Slip Indicator 4-3
    Tire Pressure 2-4
    ABS 3-1
    The exclamation mark in a circle which I think is the Brake System 3-6

    Also the brakes seem a little soft and I'm not sure the Regenerative Braking is working. We got 42 mpg on the way home from a two hour drive on highways.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated!
