Demos WIN House !!!

All I can say is THANK GOD ALMIGHTY!!! (Oh, and Ohio is now a smoke-free state... HOORAY!!!!)

 

This is a big relief. Now I can take down all those tents I set up for political refugees, and give them to the homeless instead...

To be totally honest, I'm surprised that ANYONE in the US voted republican. I mean, are people really that damn stupid, even after all of the crap they've pulled?

Congrats to the Dems - and the Senate is still up for grabs.

Other interesting happenstances from last night in my opinion:

1. My boy Joe Lieberman remains where he belongs.
2. Same sex marriage initiatives I believe ALL go down in flames - again.
3. Arizona makes English the official state language.

I think this is the best outcome for all interested in their respective party. The Dems now become a party of responsibility and Repubs now have a wake-up call to return to their basics.

I think the demo's winning this mid-term election works in favor of Conservative Republican America... Here's why I say that.

If the Reps won now, they'd basically get nothing done in the next 2 years. Sad, but I'd say true.

The Dems won on the "We're not Reps" and "Bad Iraq War". Now they have 2 years where they won't get jack done either, and they won't fix the Iraq war.

They've been hoping the whole time to get control so they can spend the next 2 years railing on Bush for every fart he ever let.... and I think they'll do it. We're going to have investigations into all kinds of things, a lot of blow-hards up there yapping about stuff they don't even understand, it's going to get ugly. It will get real old, real quick and the rep's will use it against them in 2008.

I'm pretty sure the Dems won't renew the tax cuts so our taxes will head back up. I'll be fine, but there is a lot of America that need that 30 bucks a month to pay the interest on the credit cards. Again, the reps will yap about the tax hikes we all got from the dems as we head down the road to 2008. Tax hikes are never good in public opinnion.

If we get a chance to see a supreme court appointment, this will only turn out bad for the Dems because they would never let a pro-life leaning judge past committee to a full vote. Hopefully Bush would stick with only appointments that are pro-life. America doesn't do well opinnion wise when partisian committees don't allow good bills/judges/issues to come to a full membership vote.

I see a lot of opportunity for the dems to really screw up their chances in 2008 while I see no chance for them to actually get anything done or be successful with their new day in the sun. This is a good thing.

If the Dems would just go head down and try to get stuff done, let all the political BS alone, they'd have a good show heading into 2008. I think it's just too tempting to do all the things they will do to screw this up for themselves in the next 2 years.

I guess it depends on how you define a same-sex marriage initiative. Right now the voting in Arizona is 51%-49% against the following proposal:

There is a state law banning it, but the proposal to amend the state constitution is failing.

 

I'm thinking there will be a few more Prii in the congressional parking lot.

Even Colorado in the wake of the whole Ted failure didn't have trouble with theirs. I see Colorado as a much more liberal state than I thought arizona was.

Was it a McCain backlash of some sort going on down there?

This one surprised me a little: A pleasant surprise, to be sure: Missouri, which I always thought of as the middle of the Bible belt, voted to allow stem cell research and to raise the minimum wage (not by much, but at least they passed it).

Well, helping the poor and easing the suffering of the afflicted seem to be consistent with the Bible from what I can see, but I do see what you mean about it being a surprise.

 

It was reported in exit polls that Missouri voters were saying "I voted for the embryo stem cell funding figuring it wouldn't actually do any damage since we are a poor state and can only afford to spend $50 bucks on the whole program anyhow."

I would have thought Missouri would vote Bible belt rejection on this one, but apparently the idea that they would get all the research labs to land in their front yard and bring in jobs and money out weighed the moral convictions about this.

Any research done on the back of killing babies is doomed for failure... but I guess we gotta find out the hard way.
