noticed that in a shopping center that i visit, all the clips are broken off on the charger plugs for charge point and it will no longer charge my prime. However all the tesla and volts are charging fine. my car used to charge fine when the clips weren't broken. wondering what about that clip that makes charging work on prime while not required on other cars?

you can see the charger shape here with the clip visible right above that plug itself. that part is broken for all the chargers near me.

Manually lift the portion remaining to make charging begin.

I had to do that for nearly a year at the grocery store. 2 of the 4 stations their had broken clips.

if the clip is broken, the part you press down with your thumb should still work, unless it is all broken.

prius requires a handshake, and the thumb clip lever provides that. it opens a circuit while you're plugging in, then closes it when you let your thumb off the lever.
i thought all plug ins were the same, but i guess not.

mine broke on my home L2, so i had to move the wires to a switch. i turn it on after i plug in, and off before i remove it.
if i wait too long to turn it on after plugging in, it won't start charging. i have to unplug and repeat the process. it is an interesting design.

It's tiny portion remaining. A tiny pocket knife might be needed to get a grip, since what's there is likely flush with the handle.

the wires are inside the handle. the thumb press lever pushes (or releases) a microswitch.

All I knew before was that the click the clip made was important.
Now I'm leaning why the click is important
    Thanks

that's the knowledge i'm seeking. there seems to be tribal knowledge on how to charge without the click/clip.. i've seen tesla and chevy charge there without issues. just want to know how to do the same thing

edited out Tesla adapter as it's already been mentioned above.
It's probably not going to be easy to understand exactly what @bisco and @john1701a are talking about until you actually get the clipless handles to work. I'm not getting it yet either, since I've never had the issue.
Give it time to sink in, sometimes it just takes a while to actually "get it" after reading. ;)

caught a tesla owner and looks like they just flip the lever to the up position and it's a go. however still negative in the same position for prime after many tries.

after coming home, was wondering is it the charge connector lock setting? mine is set to auto and maybe it needs to be at manual? thoughts here? anything to do with that?

I encountered this today on a charge point charger. How do I get it to initiate the handshake?
