What are you paying for electricity (price per kWh)?

I pay $0.13/kWh regardless the time of day or night. Our power company has another plan that is $0.07/kWh from 9PM to 7AM Mon-Fri and all weekend, but then it is $0.29/kWh from 7AM to 9PM Mon-Fri. Given my situation I think it is better with the plan I have and I don't have to worry about what time it is to charge the car.

Over here, with mostly hydroelectric energy, I haven't heard any discussion of electric rate increases, only natural gas increases. Not that I'm currently buying any electricity either.

 

We're getting about an 18% price hike in January.
From my solar power thread: (I think we're going solar | Page 9 | PriusChat) These prices are for 1,000 kWh or less. Anything over 1,000 is higher.

I haven't had a full year yet, so I don't know for sure how much Duke will pay me annually for my excess production, but I read somewhere that it's 3 cents/kWh. So that's what I figure it costs me to charge the car. At my average of 5.1 m/kWh, that about 6/10 of a cent per mile to drive in EV.

 

if i actually drove anywhere, i would have to reconsider gasoline. thankfully, i don't. (okay, except for florida, which is really aggravating two years in a row )

 

At the moment, about 9 cents CDN/kWh.

 

Our PUC just passed a rate increase for our utility. Starting in January, it will be a 90% increase in the supply rate, currently 6.2 cents per kilowatt-hour to 11.6 cents. Even if other rates such as distribution and transmission rates stay the same which is doubtful, a supply rate increase alone would bring our current $0.21/kWh rate to a new ~$0.27/kWh. This means my PP's EV/HV break-even gas price will be ~$3.618/gal. Yep, once again gas will be cheaper.

I have to do a hard calculation comes Jan, but it is very likely that BEV is not going to be an economical choice of vehicle for me.

 

The PUC in Minnesota also authorized an increase.
My price for electricity was calculated at $0.015.kWh. It is now $0.015/kWh and will remain that way for approximately the next 30 years.

The only good thing is that I have signed up for community solar. It was supposed to be operational sometime this year, but the project hit some delay may be due to COVID? I was told it should be finalized by the end of this year. If I can start seeing the solar discount on my utility, then I am guaranteed to save 15% on my utility bill. This should bring the rate down to ~$0.23/kWh. Still higher than the current rate, but not as bad. That means my PP's EV/HV break-even gas price will be ~$3.082/gal. Making the EV a viable option for now.

Oh, wait. I currently have signed up for a green utility program on my utility account. I pay a fixed fee of $15 every month to buy renewable energy from the source for our monthly electricity consumption. Since this is more like a donation, I can stop anytime. Since I will be getting 100% of our electricity from the community solar, stopping this donation would bring our monthly rate $15/mo cheaper. This would bring the new rate after increase to ~$0.215/kWh, about the same as the current rate. The EV/HV break-even gas price will be ~$2.881/gal, making EV drive very attractive as long as the gas price stays above $3/gal

Have you looked into community solar programs? I don't know how it works in Mass, but in our state, they are all guaranteeing a 15% discount on the electricity bills. Many of the companies behind the program are Mass-based.

I'm currently at 10 cents, but we swing as high as 32 cents during summer peak TOU. Based on my driving pattern and conservative math at $4/gallon of gas - plugging-in is advantageous up to $0.30/KWH. I'm still saving a few pennies because of the way I skewed the math estimates; in case my miles/KWH dropped. It has because the weather is getting colder, but winter rates are a few pennies cheaper. We'll see over the next few months.
I plug in every day and took a $15/month increase in my summer bill average. When compared with my old Prius C; I'm not buying 12 - 16 gallons of gas a month ~$48-$64 - great trade-off.

 

With gas prices here averaging over $4/gal ...

 

Fortunately, our gas price never topped $3.40/gal... yet. But still, it is at the highest level during my 4+ years of PP ownership.

 

My gas varies between 1.45-1.58/litre (~5.50 to 6.00$/gal) these days (we get frequent and large fluctuations). It’s gonna have to be way more expensive for electricity around here for gas to be a cheaper option per km.
