Just installed the firmware update a few days ago. Anyone notice what it was supposed to do? I didn't read the release notes.

I have a long tale of woe which probably belongs in a separate thread. But to your immediate question, I didn’t notice any real deletions but I did see an addition of Alexa.

Long tail of woe, skip if you are not interested:

For reference my car is a 2017 Prius Prime Premium but I think the key thing is that it has Entune 2.0.

I don’t use the Entune apps much. About the only thing I use is the app on the iPhone to look up addresses while not in the car and save them in the “saved destinations”. Then when in the car, I select them quickly and easily without going through the wretched early 2000s search UI in the car. And I do this very much as most of my driving is in areas I know.

Last week I had to go to a new location, so I copied the address from my calendar to the iPhone Entune app, found it, and saved it. Once in the car when I went to the apps I got a message to the effect that a required or important update should be installed. I was headed out so I tapped later, pulled up the saved destinations and went on my errand. Once back home, I again pulled up the apps on the car and got the update message. This time I allowed it to update. When done, I poked around and verified that the saved destinations were still there, the search for gas stations and EV charging stations was still there. And noticed that there was a new Alexa button/app which I did not tap on. So far, so good.

The next day I again had an unfamiliar place to go so I opened the Entune app on my iPhone and got a message saying I need to now use the iPhone Toyota app. And the button to get to the previous destination search functionality was greyed out. So I installed the Toyota app and gave it my VIN, etc.

But it doesn’t have any search function available so I can’t look up and save a destination. In fact, all it has are four panels for my car: “Toyota Service”, “Manuals & Warranties”, “SiriusXM Misses You!”, and “Roadside Assistance”. I checked the service button and it looks like my car’s entire service record is there. And there appears to be a way to schedule dealer service. The manuals and warranties seems to just link to places in Toyota websites. I have AAA so don’t care about Toyota roadside assistance and don’t need or want SiriusXM so I did not investigate those panels.

When I get in the car and try to use any of the Entune car apps I get a message saying I need to start the Toyota app even though it is already running and showing on my iPhone’s screen. That message disappears shortly and then a dialog box with only “2” for the text comes up that needs to be acknowledged to disappear. No saved destinations, no find gas stations, no find EV charging stations, etc. All give the same error message and dialog box.

So Entune on my car is totally broken and useless.

Thus far my Internet searches have turned up nothing that helps me get this resolved. Searching for Entune problems on Toyota’s websites has nothing that I could find.

Anyway, best of luck to other older Prius Prime owners, or maybe anyone with Entune 2.0, with this set of car and phone app updates.

And if you have any suggestions, I would love to read them.

A follow up from my post of 1/2 hour ago: I got someone at a Toyota 800 phone number who said this started last Friday and it is due to the fact that the integration of the Entune into the Toyota app is not yet complete. He said it should be complete shortly, no later than Wednesday at this time. He also said that I shouldn’t have to download or update any software, that when they get the integration finished it should just work.

My advise to anyone thinking about doing the update on their car would be to wait until after there are some posts from people saying it is now fixed.

For myself, I will try the iPhone Toyota app and car app functionality once a day to see if/when they have it fixed.

How nice was it of Toyota to push a severely FLAWED update on it's entune customers and than on top of that, gives the excuse that the app integration was not complete before pushing the update out.

Thanks for the updates. The scenario really deserves a prominent place in the Primes Main forum Sticky section.

Is there a way to say NO to the update? Or are there only two options "2"? - to select the update or to wait until later?

I typically wait as long as I can to update stuff like that, unless it's from a trusted source, where I don't think twice about updating daily if I have to. But the times they are a changing, and now even trusted sources are falling into the dreaded SCREWED UP updates, spiraling, like a time tunnel (an old 1960s TV series) - towards oblivion (a movie circa 2013).

I hope Toyota gets to fixed up Toyota App update pushed out ASAP.
I was thinking about trying the Toyota App, I'm really thankful for your post.

To further update: I installed the new Toyota app today after being directed to do so by the now nonfunctioning Entune app. After discovering my system didn't work with the new app, I called Toyota and learned about the integration delay. The customer service rep said the integration is expected to be completed by this Friday (although the way she phrased it made me think it's a hopeful rather than firm estimate). SMH head that you'd release an unfinished app and disable the former one.

I have a 2019 with entune 2.0 as well. Sent message through the help and feed back tab on the Toyota app and received a call at 6 am! telling me to uninstall and reinstall the app and that will fix it! Didn’t work. I will consider a more tech savvy company the next time I buy a car.

Status report: Still broken for me as of this minute.

Just to be sure it was nothing on my end, I removed and reinstalled the Toyota app. And I remove and re-added my Prius Prime.

Yep, Entune is still broken. I have been checking it over the past few days and the app logs out and requires me to log in again. When I try to log in, after I enter my password, I have to tap the “sign in” button several times before it takes it. Sometimes it just won’t take it at all and I have reset my password to sign in. We are supposed to do this every time we get in the car?!!! Of course, you can listen to music with Bluetooth or even better plug your phone in which, I think, is exactly what Toyota wants. You bring your own tech, they just provide a screen display. That way, they don’t have manage tech which they are an EPIC failure at!

Some ways of removing apps work better than others. I'm no exactly sure how each remove/uninstall works completely, but if you go through the process of them all you'll find out if the app has actually been uninstalled or removed completely from an android phone, like mine. iOs probably works a lot different, so ymmv there.
5 ways to uninstall apps on Android in a matter of seconds
as I discovered when trying to get the newer versions of Hybrid Assistant and DrPrius.
I'm not a big phone user either, I have my hands full understanding this Desktops quirks.

Just logged in to the Toyota app and the tile with App Suite connections now appears (see image below). Just went out to car to test, and it works. But…Toyota’s made the connection process even more convoluted than before. First, you have to go into the tile and link your accounts (LiveXLive, iHeart Radio, Alexa). Then, when you want to use it, you have to open the app, tap the “Get More Information” link at the bottom of the tile, and tap the “Connect” button on the next screen, which displays a connected pop-up (with a button to disconnect, if you wish). It appears to me that the app must remain open at this point. Closing it broke the connections for the various apps. Also, turning off the car broke the connections, meaning I’ll need to go through this process next time I use it. Brilliant, Toyota.

I see my iPhone APP is updated now too. I haven’t had a chance to test it yet but, i’m sure I will end up saying Forget It!! And just plug my phone in and control it that way. Just what Toyota wants me to do. Love the car HATE THE TECH!

Got in my car and tested the new APP. So, I usually start my commute with music then switch to an audio book and then back to music at the end of the trip. I opened the Toyota APP and of course I had to sign in again, including retrieving a code from my email. After clicking on all the screens outlined above I got it running again and was able to listen to music on LiveXLive again. Then I switched to bluetooth for my audiobook and when I tried to go back to the Toyota APP to listen to music at the end of the trip the Toyota APP wanted me to sign in again! Pathetic! You can’t sign in while driving because it forces you to type in your info or copy and paste. So, it’s pretty much useless to me.

Update to my log on issues: I fixed my log in problems by changing the “Require Authentication” under security settings to 12 Hours. I think the default was 15 minutes. Why?

They’ve updated the app a couple times in the past few days. Sign-in works correctly now, as well as the “keep me signed in” feature. Not sure what the “require authentication” setting controls. Mine was set to 15 minutes, too, but it hasn’t asked me to sign in again since they updated the app and fixed the sign-in bugs. I’m still annoyed that you have to connect the app each time you use it, though.

Additional update: Looks like they also fixed the issue of breaking the connection when you turn off the car. I was listening to LiveXLive today, left the car to shop (and kept the app open on my phone), and it reconnected and started playing LiveXLive when I returned, so the connection persists.

Anyone get charge notifications working like they did on the MyEntune App? I miss those.

Yes, me too. Occasionally my charging session is cut short or fails for some reason, and it's nice to let me know so I can fix it. I don't like going to the car and finding out that the previous night's scheduled charge barely worked and I only have (say) 18% left on the battery. I appreciated the notifications that seem to be gone now.

I love this car. But the infotainment software is terrible. Entune 2.0 was/is horrible and in the process of integrating its functions into the Toyota app, they have, for now, made it even worse in many ways.

Priorities in computing are more focused on planned obsolescence much more these days than when some vendors used to hold high regard for legacy compatibility. Just try and get support for a 15 year old computer from a manufacturer these days. The time frame for phones is even shorter, and that's basically what the infotainment system is based on.

My Tundra needed an update this summer but I'm still seeing some issues....disconnecting from my phone in the middle of a call, etc. A Toyota technician said it's smart to totally remove your phone from the bluetooth on both the vehicle and your phone and then to reconnect which seems to help a lot of folks with issues. Whenever I've checked the software in our 2017 Prius it's said I'm updated so I'll have to check this latest. (And also the Tundra)
