I recently had an exhaust shop install the shield. Louvers are open on the bottom and to front of vehicle - mechanic says he feels this would pull air in for cooling. I worry about catching debris/objects in the vents. Miller cust svc says they should open to bottom and face rear, but their description of the “M” badging location (passenger side) means the vents would protrude on the cat side, not the ground. Anyone have any pics of their Miller Cat Shield install? Any thoughts? Mechanic is willing to rotate shield for me. First pic is my Prius, second is from Miller website. Thanks
I will be installing my Gen 4 Miller Cat shield tomorrow on my 2022 Prime. I will be installing it per the Miller instructions. iPhone ?
I'd take the mechanic's offer to switch the shield around. Air rushing by the vents will create negative pressure on the outer side of the fins that will draw air out of the central tunnel area where the catalytic converter is. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Just finished installing mine on a 2022 Prime. Unfortunately, I could not use ramps since the vehicle is so low to the ground and the ramps were too steep. The bumper kit the ramps before the tires would. Lifting and blocking took a lot of time and with only 16 inches of clearance to the ground, it was a tight height to work in. I used double sided tape to hold the spacers to the factory cross bars, which helped. Overall, not a difficult installation, but hard on the wrists due to all the sharp edges they scrape against. If you have access to a lift, take advantage of it for the install. Mine looks just like the installation instruction pictures. View attachment 218754 JObe, not only is the shield flipped, it also is not mounted properly by your mechanic. On the rear, he placed the shield between the vehicle frame and the middle cross brace. It is to be installed below the middle cross brace to ensure there is clearance with the the exhaust system and coolant lines. I highly recommend that your shield be reinstalled per the Miller instructions to avoid issues. Hopefully he did not discard the four spacers you will need. Also, he did not use the flat and split ring lock washers on the front two tamper proof mounting screws. Those screw may work loose over time. Did he install the foam strips to prevent rattling? They need to be installed on the opposite side of the shield when it is installed properly (correct side up). So you need to round up four spacers (six total) assuming two were used on the front, two split ring lock washers, two flat washers, three foam strips and the installation instructions from the mechanic, before you take it in to another shop that will do it properly.
You need a Quickjack. Here's a photo of my car on mine. Not cheap. but worth it to me. Question is, HOW MUCH IS YOUR LIFE WORTH?
Good to see you were able to get it installed as intended. Should help to avoid future issues. iPhone ?
Interesting that Toyota has now added the guard on the accessory page when you build on the Toyota site.
It looks very solid. Is the shield still protecting the cat? I'm asking since I'm searching for a shield for my 07 Prius now.
