okay. The abs motor pump is constantly having to run due to pressure leak. Could that be why it’s dropping 12-15+ mpg?
probably not. how many miles on her? has she had correct maintenance? what was your mpg and when did it change? has your driving changed at all? anything else? so many things could be wrong on a 17 year old car
I have seen where an ABS system is running almost nonstop due to leakage in the circuit going to the driver front brake. It was maintaining a low pressure on the caliper and causing a lot of heat. You could hear the fluid bypassing/leaking from under the car if your head was near the driver front. Not 13 mpg worth of heat, but it had to have been having some effect.
After recently having replaced the ABS actuator, the mpg did increase noticeably. It went from 35 mpg up to around 46 mpg.
WOW! My MPG increased only about 10-15% after replacing the brake actuator. Not that I can complain as I'm getting 46-52 mpg now that fall has arrived. And that is on an original 16-year-old hybrid battery.
Just wondering. Have you recently done a Dr Prius check on your battery? How many miles on it? Mine is 14 years old with nearly 200k and fine. If I drive in colder weather, after ten minutes I’m back up in the 50s or better on mpg.
I have not. It is the original battery though and the car has 95,500 miles on it. Thought of getting the Dr. Prius app and checking it, but decided ignorance is bliss instead.
That’s what Colonel Custer reportedly said as he approached the Little Bighorn. Dr. Prius app is free for basic tests.
my beloved Prius is currently for the ABS issue Toyota refuses to recall. Let’s get back in a Class Action! anyhow, yes, it can affect gas mileage. I reset my trip and watched the consumption while both the ABS lights were off and back off. There was at least a 25 percent reduction. I was averaging 35mpg with the ABS lights on! :-(((( hopefully I get it back early next week
The prior owner of my Prius had recall work done at an independent shop for whatever reason and Toyota reimbursed him. For the life of me I can’t figure out why he didn’t go to Toyota to get it done.
Brought my Prius home this week after having a used ABS actuator installed and my MPG went from 35 to 47!!!
