Daughter's 2007 got sideswiped by a hit and run moron last week. Right now the body shop says we're looking at around $4000+. The car might be worth that much. With 295,000 miles on it I'm of the opinion that this car is at it's life's end. Especially being that the original hybrid battery is still in there. The problem is, it still runs solidly. So I'm asking y'all in the 2nd Gen Prius Community, am I worrying for nothing? Is this car capable of many more miles to come? We just put new tires, cat, and a drive belt on it. I'm only worried about the mileage because I've never been in possession of a car with that many miles on it.
With another battery the car could make $500,000 most of my Toyotas do that . Prii I have not run that long personally I'm heading to 400K now on 09 same as your 07. But. If the ABS pump or ABS module goes out you really have to know what you're doing to get that sorted and keep the car on the road That's when all the Amber's light up and your pedal is hard as a rock so it's a real crap shoot with these cars Me personally I would tell a body shop to eat my shoes before I put $4,000 in the body work on any car let alone a Prius I am not one to do body work I can go out and get a rolling chassis of an '07 for almost nothing The engine and it will probably be good so will the transmission probably have a bad battery for the most part or the ABS pump setup is bad I can use check that as I'm telling the guy I want the car pretty quickly now if you're not set up to do any of this then of course you know this is all foreign and probably irrelevant but there may be somebody in your area that does that I don't know I've been just lurking here because I'm new to priius. I've been over on toy mods for 25 years as race toy SM-A715F ?
The car should go many more miles, but 4000 for just bodywork in this case is hard to justify in my opinion.
Is this the Anti-Lock Braking System Pump you're talking about? Do those ever go out? Probably. I actually haven't even seen the damage as I was out hunting when this happened and then it was towed to the shop. We're actually waiting for the insurance company's opinion. She says the drivers side doors and front fender were damaged. I could probably swap those things out but she's not really excited about having different colored doors and fenders.
An earl schieb paint job on a car that old is generally not a big production so yes if I could change out a fender and a door more than likely that's what I'd be doing it sounds like it was just lightly sideswiped so there's no real frame damage no pillar damage none of that you just need to door in the front fender maybe the front bumper cover a nose whatever that I've done plenty of SM-A715F ?
$500 deductible on collision coverage. It can be fixed with $500 out of pocket. My question was more along the lines of "is it worth it." If it isn't worth it I can take the insurance cash and buy another Prius with less miles. That's where I'm coming from. Whomever the jerk was actually hit 3 cars. Daughter's Prius, other daughter's Elantra, and the neighbors Escalade. Luckily the Elantra door panels and fenders were able to pop right back to normal. They look like gook has been wiped across them. Sideview mirror and door handle broken off, front rim bent, and lower control arm bent. That's an easy fix.
Well if you can do that and get the last miles Prius and maybe even keep your old car for parts if you're buying another Gen 2 and spending $500 out of pocket that might be a smoking deal SM-A715F ?
"Side swiped" to what extent? Pictures would help. If it is just minor damage to body panels then fix it for $500 (out of your pocket) and call it a day. (Just don't expect the new paint to match perfectly 10 years from now, but hey, that is a very long time.) However, if the car's "frame" is bent, or the collision displaced any of the wheels, have a long hard think. Body shops can "fix" such things but I personally would not trust a car which has been bent like that and yanked back into shape.
