Today my Gen. 1 2003 Prius (378k miles) gave me the triangle of death! Second time it’s done this. First time was for a quick clean of the MAF sensor, thanks to you lovely people and my father, it was a beautiful quick fix…today was for a few different codes. One being cylinder 3 misfire, which was also a quick fix, temporarily, as I’ve had to previously switch some coil packs around. And one that gave my father (Toyota and Lexus Specialist in Utah) concern. P3130 Inverter Cooling System Malfunction. Dad, figured it was strange as I’ve had no other problems. Well after resetting previous codes, no lights on dash, I started on my merry way with a little test drive. Ran beautifully, ten minutes later, red triangle! Got to the nearest auto parts store, scan…Only code, P3130 DARN IT! Called my fabulous father, he’s guiding me on cooling the car down. Go in and ask if parts store has a 2003 Toyota Prius Inverter/Auxiliary water primo for the hybrid system. NOTHING at any store of theirs. Spend the next while calling every parts store in Tallahassee to Thomasville…none carry or can get it at all. Call Toyota, $220 for part G9020-47022! No thanks! My father and I are searching for one that may be cheaper…Amazon, $143. We know we can do better than that. Anyone know of an aftermarket that would be cheaper? That wouldn’t need any modifications done to it? Or anyone have luck finding one at a salvage yard/pick n pull? I will be calling a pick n pull in the morning, but any suggestions would be great and appreciated!

Thank you! But that’s 200 mi. away from me. Maybe they will ship it to me! If they still have em! I’ve tried googling it but the only one I know to get is the part number listed above but I just need the pump…but can’t tell the difference between all of them. I’m very overwhelmed and trying to get back to working. And getting my baby back up and running!
I would not install a used part from any 2003 that is at least 18 years old. There are a lot of plastic components that deteriorate with age and wear parts like bearings. There is only one option to buy new. Also, Toyota will likely discontinue stocking the part and has only new old stock on hand. I doubt if Asin in making any more of this part.

For heaven's sake, don't nickel-and-dime yourself! Go with the OEM part from Toyota! Much simpler in the long run, and you have recourse to the dealer's parts department in case of a problem. You're only $77 difference between the 'zon and Toyota, after all.
Upvote for Trombone's sentiment. The $200 pump protects several times that value in parts (inverter, etc) that are MUCH harder to replace.

This is the Internet side of a Kansas City-area Toyota dealer, but they ship. I think there is another dealer in Arizona (Phoenix?) and one in Boston, MA that have similar operations. My inverter water pump quit a few months ago and I got the replacement there. $148.69 for the part and about $15 in taxes and fees. I live in the area and picked it up at their parts counter, so there wasn't any shipping. NOTE: If you walk in to Olathe Toyota's parts desk (and presumably also if you call them), they will charge you list price. If you order online for pickup at the very same dealer parts desk, you get the online price. I don't understand it but I have seen it in action. I don't work for Olathe Toyota or any other companies mentioned.
I paid $21,000 for my first one, but I got a free car with it. For the replacement, I paid about $165 to replace one that lasted about 234k miless, or about 0.07 cents per mile.
