Well that seems pretty arbitrary and sucky.

The meanings do depend on the state. Here, you can't do anything with a "salvage" except rebuild it. Then you make your inspection appointment to show it's complete and you can account for where you got the parts, and they change the title to "rebuilt". Then you can insure and register and drive it.

 

You should be able to dispute that $5,800. The other guy's insurance tried to lowball us when we got rear ended by offering the value of the base model. We reminded them that the top trim, which we had, was much more valuable and sent them screen shots from KBB and one or two other sites as proof. They came around. They even gave us partial recompense for the brand new 12V battery and the $1,600 air conditioner repair that we'd had done a couple months prior to the collision.

Go after the insurance company for lost wages as well. A lawyer might be worth the spend here.

 

I've been with USAA 30 years and in the last 10 the insurance game has changed a lot they don't like to pay for anything and everything they're paying to replace is cheap junk it's a big mess that's for sure I just keep lots of parts and a few spare cars the best thing I can do because I can't depend on insurance or any of that nonsense lawyers cost a lot of money and then they can mess up to these young bucks out here they don't have a clue of how the game works

If you haven't found a decent lawyer then talk to the insurance company directly. Mention lost wages and medical and that this is dragging on too long. Remind them that you are the victim and it was their client that is at faulty. If they continue to drag you'll be forced to contact an attorney and resolve this in a different manner.

The insurance company does not know you already tried that and got the run around. You're just using that as a motivator for them.

Take the money see if they'll let you keep the car for cheap $500 or some nonsense and then fool around with it from there I have five Priuses in the yard a few with no titles I use another title to run another car in my state that would be in you know an accident oops I'm sorry wrong car wrong paperwork the no problem and other places it might cause a big to do with law enforcement where I am not so much I generally buy my wrecks back because the parts in my wrecks are generally very good and I want to reuse recycle etc

Sorry to have a car on the road you need to be able to prove to a court financial responsibility for said VIN number That's 90% of the issue with any judge taking a tag off another card that you own and all that is irrelevant as long as you have financial responsibility for the car that you supposedly have illegally on the road I have that financial responsibility no problem so the rest of it generally slides right on through the courts with narrly a look. I mean I'm known my town I work on vehicles the cops have tried to run me through the ringer a few times I know how the game is played so I play it
