You didn't, by any chance, happen to shut the car down before the ICE turned itself off during the initial warm-up phase at the time this violent shaking occurred?

 

If you did, you can get that violent shaking on restarting.

It is always a good idea to let it complete that first start up phase before shutting the car off again.

 

I'm new on here and I'm just learning and doing what people are telling me so that I can prepare to diagnose a Prius before buying it. The Torque Pro App paid Android version is only $4.95, not $60. I think ericbecky meant to say $6, not $60, because I've seen a lot of people saying $6 on this site, but I paid for it tonight and it was $4.95.

Also, download Dr. Prius. You can check the state of all of the parts of your battery. Dr. Prius is a free app but you'll need to buy a Bluetooth OBDII scanner. Take time to read the Dr. Prius app's comments on what particular OBDII scanner to buy. He recognizes some as junk and some that don't work with Dr. Prius. I bought a recommended one and it was cheaper on Amazon than it was on eBay oddly. Also, since you need it right away you can get two day shipping. It only cost me $10 for the Bluetooth OBDII scanner. Here is the link:

Will be nice to be able to check codes yourself once you have the equipment.

 

Bad hybrid battery is usually why people sell there Prius. Lots of times the car was taken to the dealer with issues and they pulled obd codes and found a bad hybrid battery. Traded in on the spot they send the car to auction and it ends up on used car lot.

Many times the hybrid battery will throw a high voltage ground fault code that can be removed temporarily by disconnecting the 12 volt battery and you can drive for a while till it logs again. many many people have been burned buying that kind of car is its very common.
Car will behave long enough to get off the lot.

Go to toyota.com/owners and join the forum and list the car's vin. You will see every event the car has seen at a authorized toyota repair center. Lots of times you will see why the car was traded in. You can see the cars repair/maintenance history.

If you own a G2 prius you need a hybrid capable OBD code reader. Many options where you can use a obd app on your phone and there's the mini vci and theirs the VX DIAG at amazon for $65 that has techstream software that will pull all codes. Whatever you chose it must have toyota techstream software or it wont decode hybrid codes. You going to need one of those asap.

Without codes its just a guess.

And you can turn the engine on or off at any time it will not cause shaking. That's a G3 issue.
You had a misfire code logged.

Hey I'm in the same exact position as you. I got my catalytic converter stolen and had a new one installed literally the same morning that all the lights came on. I unplugged my battery and plugged it back in after the catalytic converter was installed to remove the check engine light. I drove about 15 miles and then I got hit with the same cluster of lights that you did. I also unplugged the battery and plugged it back in and was able to drive it again. Now I'm scared it'll happen again. Did you fix your problem by changing the inverter coolant pump? Or did you change the water pump?

 

The most consistent successes are going to come to the people who find out what the trouble codes are, rather than just trying to guess from the lights.
