Good day everyone. I was curious about the health of my 12v battery on my 2014 Prius and ran across this video: After entering the setting for the battery, the reading was hovering between. 11.7v and 11.8v. According to the video, it should replaced. I would like to hear from all of you if I should be looking at replacing it?
it all depends on your desire for reliability. you can change it now, have time to shop around and pick one up and install, and no worries, or you can risk not starting at some point, and have to change it not at your leisure. if you decide to hold off, you might want to consider a small emergency jump starter. the above test isn't really much help. a 7 year old battery could last for years or fail tomorrow.
ditto... That is not the true accurate way to test the battery. AND 12v is not a good battery! (as the guy said in video) Voltmeter testing at the jump points at resting stage is the way... which is letting it sit overnight (best with hood propped so you do not need to open doors and "wake up" car) and then testing with meter. If you do not have a meter, you could get it load tested at auto parts store. Your 11.7v reading is NOT accurate....do not use that number. However...this is a chart of usefulness AFTER you can test accurately.
Electronic load tester is better. There are DIY versions for under $100 USD. One example is Solar BA9.
Yes, load testing is better. I imagine not many want to shell out $$ for just testing a batt. Luckily I had a fluke for other purposes to just test. (not load) But if I had to buy one, I would prob just buy a new batt in questioned or concerned. I do carry a jump starter in all cars at all times for times in need.
