I was involved in an accident a few days ago. I’m waiting to hear from the insurance inspector person re: whether my girl is repairable or totaled. She only had 35k miles on her. Airbags did not deploy, I walked away sore but in one piece. I have not been able to look at the undercarriage to see what the damage, if any, is on the bottom. Thoughts on whether she’ll be declared totaled or not? Thanks.
Your damage is significantly more than the kamikaze deer did to my 2016 Prius and that was sufficient for the insurance to total it and pay me $22k towards the purchase of my 2020 AWDe. JeffD
A deer did my 2016 Four in just recently. The initial estimate was fine they just ordered bumper, grill and hood parts but once those came in and the shop started adding in radiator, AC components and headlamps they totaled my car. I just went through buying a '22 Prime and I'm sorry if you'll be shopping soon too. Really low stock. Lotta things are backed up in ports and factories. There was a stop sale order on regular Prius models in the last few weeks as well so trying to replace your car is going to be a heavy lift. Not impossible but this is not normal times for car buying. You will not be getting any good deals I'm afraid to say. Toyota slashed incentives across pretty much all markets. If I recall Primes had 4 or 5k toyota incentives last winter. Went down to 2k over the summer. Was 1500 by the time I got mine last weekend. Some dealers are even marking up what little stock they do have so you may need to cast a wide net. The only thing I saw for regular prius was $500 new graduates or $500 military discounts. I think there was an Uber incentive as well. If you don't drive many miles going for a lease if you can find a reasonable deal may hold you over until this market cools down. If there is any good to this is your insurance should be paying fair market value for your car in the condition it was in before it got wrecked so don't let them lowball you if they do total it.
Yes, I’m leaning towards leasing in this market. I looked up the KBB value of my car and I will push back hard if they don’t give me a fair amount.
Dang, sorry that happened! I hit a deer a few weeks ago and just got my estimate of just over $10,000 so she's being fixed. Toyota seems very proud of their parts, VERY expensive! On the radio this morning, our local Honda dealer advertising they'll pay 120% over Blue Book value for used cars...so wants folkd to bring them in....they are desperate for cars to sell around here. If you're going to be in the market, also look at the Corolla and Avalon and Rav4 Hybrids....all are pretty impressive, IMHO. Or wait for the Tundra Hybrid in the Spring!
Ouch. Glad yours is repairable. Yes, I’m looking into other Toyotas, something with AWD. I do like the RAV4. If they tell me my Prius is repairable, I’m expecting it will take a long time to get her completely fixed. Luckily my insurance allows me to go to a repair place of my choice. And I wouldn’t feel comfortable driving her again until I know she’s fully restored to pre-accident condition.
That's great, Kat! My co-worker has a RAV-4 Hybrid on order and was told it should arrive soon...I'll be out in the parking lot checking it out! My brother-in-law has owned RAV-4's forever and he lives in Maine where they have horrible winters...he loves them!
In California anyways your insurance has to let you go where you want they will strongly recommend a place to use but that is not always in your best interest.
I just bought a new Prius once the stop sale was lifted and feel I got a pretty good deal, although I did have to take what I could get as far as what was on the lot. In my area there are no Primes to be found and they are offering $24k for used Primes (and regular Prius) within the last five years. Terrible market to buy used. That RAV4 Prime looks interesting, but none to be found. Sorry about your car, I am going to say it's totaled, but that's just an uneducated guess.
