I needed a new 12V battery for my Gen2. So I went to the Dekka battery factory store (as I was nearby on other business). I purchased a Dekka blem for $136 plus sales tax. Blem has six month warranty and external scuff on the battery's case. Saved about $100. Dekka battery is located in Lyons PA (near Kutztown PA). So far battery is working nicely. I did a quick 7AM install on Sunday morning. As a result, I have to go back and determine how to properly reinstall HV battery duct. Not a problem here this time of year (50s and 60s temperature). But this piece definitely needs to be properly reinstalled.
Interstate Batteries makes one as well and if you search for a local distributor they often have blemished ones for very cheap prices. here’s the Gen 2 model Interstate Batteries | MTX-S46B24R
Deka (owned by East Penn) operates a huge factory in the PA countryside of Berks County PA. See pic below. Removed duct because it was in the way. If i have time, I will take pics of my quick and dirty Sunday install WITHOUT duct (AKA Bad Battery Install). And, a second pic showing corrected install. If I did the quick and dirty battery install then it is likely others have also. IOW, put HV battery ductwork properly installed on your Gen2 used car checklist.
I have used different brands of batteries that were all produced by East Penn for years with very few problems. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Shipping was $0.00 because I went to the factory store in Lyons PA, paid them and picked it up. PS Can acid batteries be shipped by USPS, UPS or Fedex? If so, does the acid need to be removed?
An AGM battery does contain battery acid but is sealed up and does not require topping off. Shipping is available for AGM batteries; there will be a warning sticker on the package and they are pretty heavy.
