The mechanic I go to said they don't enter what they've done online so it won't show up there. I was kind of annoyed about that.

:) Sorry. People come to PriusChat with all levels of experience so I have to kind of guess what will be helpful to say, since we don't know each other, and there's a risk you'll think I aimed too high or you'll think I aimed too low. I'd rather take the first risk—people can be pretty touchy if they feel underestimated, and I don't feel good doing it either.

The garbledy stuff: it's like if Chrome is your web browser and you click Help -> About Chrome and it tells you what version it is, and you go look to see if that's the latest version you should have, only with the car you need to plug an extra gadget in to do it. A lot of people here end up getting that sort of gadget so they'll be able to do such things.

Then they don't do firmware updates.
If you did what I suggested you would know.

I'm sorry I hope I didn't offend you. I was making fun of my own lack of expertise. I really appreciate all the advice given, at any level.

Yesterday after I turned off the car I heard that noise that I think is the brake system again. I think I'll see if the dealer can take a look at it on Friday, and I'll ask them to enter the recent oil change onto the Carfax so it will show up in the vehicle history reports online.

I will ask them to look to see what happened when the brake lights came on the other day. I'm at 148,000 miles now.... If this thing goes right after the 150 mark, or after december, that's going to stink.

Someone told me that if you hit your brake pedal a whole lot, the code will fire and the lights will come on and then the part gets replaced. Is that accurate?

Toy dealership will always add info to the Vin number. Especially firmware updates.

When you do it will show everything they have done to the car since new.

I just did it and it looks like no one has updated the vehicle history report except toyota, so there's nothing on there because the guy I bought it from got his oil changes at Walmart.

I made an appointment for November 5th. The lady on the phone told me to drive as little as possible until then so I don't go over 150k in case it shows the code at that appointment. Wish me luck!

    Does it show inverter updates?

The key is to keep it under 150k even if it means some other transport for longer trips. But you should drive it often with short trips.

Most advice on Priuschat is from diy'ers aimed at diy'ers. Even then a high level of expertise and advanced tools is required. But you did get the basics especially around the expiring special warranty.

Toyota rarely allows exceptions for free work after program expirations. However some do get help by contacting Toyota Corporate if a failure has occurred soon after an expiration date.

How many times has the Brake warning light come on?

It only came in once. I'll try pressing the brake pedal repeatedly again. That appears to make it come on.

I'll also borrow my dad's car for any long trips. I've been trying to make sure I keep the mileage low.

There are additional appointments before 2015.

I'm going to log on on my computer and enter all the things that I've done so at least some more of it is accurate.

That is normal if just the squiggly lines show up.

Based on this description, if the pump operates continuously while brakes are held and has been doing so for about a year, is that a clear indication that the system needs this repair?

And lets say one day the Brake, Slip Indicator, Brake System, and ABS warning lights all turn on and the brakes require pressing all the way to the floor in order to slow the car, would that and the pump operation sound also be a clear indicator the system needs this repair?

Because that was my day today. I didn't realize there was an existing CSB until searching my issue.

I wouldn't assume that. In this recent thread, I wound up paying almost $1000 because T-SB-0041-15 was never applied to my car:

My Prius dead again, with techstream this time. | PriusChat

Toyota will only perform that software update if your car has explosions in the Intake manifold that blow off the PCV and EVAP hoses. When those hoses blow off, the ICE won't run, and must be towed. The meat of the TSB is a software update, but the TSB specifically states to not implement it, unless the Hoses blew off.

I had recently been to the same dealership to have the Inverter software update done. It would have really made sense to apply T-SB-0041-15 at the same time, but the TSB explicitly forbids applying the update without the error codes and the blown off hoses. Cost me $1000, and my loyalty to that dealership.

    The TSB
