What did you do to your Prime today?

Welcome! As my high school shop teacher used to say, "There are no dumb questions."
I used to jack up one side at a time and do that side before switching to the other side. Then I bought another pair of jack stands to make it easier to have the car level for changing the transaxle fluid. So now it's easier to use the front center jack point and get the front up on the stands. Then take the floor jack to the back get it up on the stands. Then I can get them all done before putting the car back down.

The problem with using the front center lift point on the Prime is that it's about 54" or so back from the front of the car and my floor jack won't fit under the car. (Edit to add that it will go under the car but that the car is too low to get the fat rear part of the jack under it.) So I drive up on a pair of mini ramps I made out of 2X8 to get the car high enough for the floor jack to fit under it. You can see them in the picture in this thread. As for tread depth, I just have a cheap gauge that has a graduated plunger in inches & mm. It doesn't have to be perfectly accurate. And due to the variances in how you hold it, I don't think any are super accurate unless it's a computerized LIDAR kind of thing.

Can you tell me where you sourced those lights? I'm trying to convert my whole rear bumper & light setup to the PHV GR.

 

I sourced them from Buyee.jp, managed to piece together a set in 3 different auctions

Turns out the husky liners that I had in my 2016 Prius fit just the same in the 2022 Prime. I think I prefer them over the OEM rubber mats because they cover further up the wheel wells in the front and the middle hump in the back.




I also got a little autobot decal. It amuses me greatly to think that Optimus Prime ended up stuck in a Prius form. Surely Toyota knew the implications adding Prime to the name a few years back.



And I added some rain-x to the back window. Winter is coming so hopefully it'll help since there isn't a wiper back there.

Next project isn't until the snow flies - got a set of snow tires on steel rims mounted and ready when it's time.

 

I lied, my next project was tidying up the garage and nailing this neat little cable holder thing for my charger cable. It was only $16. A few dollars less than the $20 plastic garden hose hook I had in my basket at first. Plus it's metal.



My cable had been just sort of coiled on the ground by some tarps so I threw the tarps in another corner, put this on the side of some shelves, and zip tied the cord to the wall on the bottom of the shelves off the floor. Winters are pretty rough up here and it's not uncommon, when I can't be bothered enough to kick all the snow off the car, that it turns into a salt-dirt-slush puddle around the car. Didn't want that getting all over the cord.

 

I got tired of pressing the wrong temperature control button while driving on bumpy roads, so I cut up some low profile rubber feet so I can feel for the correct button. I didn’t do the same for the other side since the only buttons I use are the volume controls which are convenient to change from the steering wheel controls.

 

Thanks everyone for sharing their pics! It's inspired me to make a list of things to do as soon as my PP arrives while also planning out future mods.

Immediate: debadge, tint, de-hubcap, cabin and trunk LED light replacement, add weather-stripping.

I'm torn on getting clearcoat protection on the hood and bumper as I don't plan to drive on the highway much.
I would really like to black out the rims soon after delivery, but I may wait until the factory tires start wearing out before looking into it.

Much later: Upgrade speakers, replace horn, add fog lights, add soundproofing
Much much later: sideview mirror replacement, fibre optic ceiling lights, wire up inverter with projector for optics, add door footwell lights, add fog-lights or swap out bumper/light with one from higher trim.

 

I am a new member who took delivery of a 2022 Prius Prime (base Canadian model) last Tuesday.

Thanks to all the forum members for your insights as I try to understand to use the PP’s features. I have spent a lot of time searching this forum for information and it has been very valuable.

First mod on the books was the removal of the tire pump and goop canister. They were replaced with a small conventional air pump and tire temporary plug repair kit.



Next was the removal of the hub caps and getting wheel center caps on order.

The biggest mod to date was the installation of the Prius Lift Kit yesterday. I was not comfortable with the inch and a half clearance I had with my 5 degree sloped driveway. I am much happier with the 3” I now have. An alignment appointment is booked for tomorrow and I will post more about the lift kit and install after the alignment.

The rear passenger glass is factory tint, correct? How about the rear hatch? Any issue with windshield low angle haze?
I have 50% on my Odyssey windshield and front passenger windows and like it, but low angle haze is a bit annoying. Also night visibility through the side windows can be poor. Is your 15% ever an issue at night?

 

I’m very tempted to get a set in future. Which model is it?

 

Winter tires on! 17x7 Subaru Forester wheels, steel so they’re heavy but they’ll do the job for this winter!

Finally, I installed cloned TPMS sensors into the winter wheels and swapped them onto my PP. I bought wheels and winter tires as a set without TPMS sensors and had them delivered mounted and balanced. Then later I bought a TPMS programming tool (Autel TS508) that came with 8 programmable sensors. I have used the TPMS tool (Autel TS508) for winter tire swap on our two other cars, but not on PP. Was thinking to wait till I have to buy a new set of winter tires, but decided to install them into the wheel this year.



While the wheels were off, I sprayed around suspension with a rust inhibitor. This year I used LPS3 and CRC 06026 Heavy Duty Corrosion Inhibitor. Last time, I used FluidFilm and WoolWax on our other car. They did work to some extent but seem to wash off easily and did not last long. Also, both FluidFilm and WoolWax are lanolin-based chemicals and in an aerosol can, the application was messy due to the thickness of content. The WoolWax is the thickest and makes blobs when applied on the surface. FluidFilm applies similar to WoolWax but in an aerosol can it runs and applies more evenly than WoolWax.

LPS3 was slightly thinner than FuildFilm but still is substantially thicker than CRC. I really liked the way CRC coated the surface evenly without making a mess but will wait for the verdict until next spring when the winter wheels come off.

 

Unicorn PUP and MOA, tuff to beat that brew quality... All thumbs held high!
