Hello all, About the car 2012 prius 186,000 km , averaging 3.9l/100km / 60mpg . I love this car 2 questions 1. Check engine light is on after changing spark plugs Changed the spark plugs today. Torqued each new plug to 156in/lbs no anti seize used coils were reattached and double checked connections secure engine sounded ok when new plugs were in not as smooth as I would have hoped. I will get an obd2 scanner tomorow but has anyone experienced similar? I am concerned because I removed the wire going to the part just beyond the first plug. I do not know what that piece is which brings me to my next question 2. Is there a place to get a detailed diagram of the engine with all the parts labeled? Thank you all very much, Oliver
First off: basic maintenance info like this should be included in Owners Manual. Anyway, that number is “close”: 156/12=13 (ft/lb). Repair manual says 15, and no mention of anti-seize, so think you’re close enough. attached excerpt has spark plug info. Toyota in their wisdom has spark plug change instruction in one place, and plug torque value in another section, lumped in with valve cover exploded view. watch out: coil locator bolt torque value is also INCH/pounds. And really, you don’t need torque wrench for those, just one-hand the wrench, don’t go mad.
Sounds like it might be the camshaft timing control valve, seen on the last page of the attachment Mendel supplied. You plugged it back in, didn't you?
It doesnt need unplugging. just didn't want to damage the wiring and there was some dirt underneath the wire where it was. Yes everything has been replugged and double checked P0010 code came up which is saying, camshaft position actuator ciruit/open bank 1 The code went away. However. The car is not running as smooth as before. the engine sounds ok but you can feel a vibration in your butt in the seat every second or two. Oil changes have been done on time since the car was new. Oil was changed 5k km ago. Thanks
I agree with bisco. Make sure you have the correct spark plugs. That could cause codes and vibration issues.
Oem denso plugs form Toyota, code is gone. The part I unplugged was the camshaft timing control valve which is what the code was. Now for the second part of the question. Does anyone know where I can get a very detailed schematic of the prius enigne. Thanks
