Hi I don’t have any problems with this engine and it’s 125k miles.Does 2014 need catch can installed?I am thinking of cleaning egr system and if it needs catch can then I want to install now. Thanks.
Don't just clean the EGR cooler and EGR valve, clean the intake manifold and EGR passages in the intake manifold as well. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I remember the first time, looking through the throttle body, seeing the black mirror surface beyond, thinking what is that. That’s what an effective Oil Catch Can will partially quell. You’re due for full Exhaust Gas Recirculation cleaning too.
You're going to need better oil and fuel resistant hose than what comes with most catch cans from Amazon. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
3/8” ID SAE30R7 fuel line is good, readily available locally by the foot, at automotive specialty stores. Or …R6.
The sun doesn't rise-and-set on having that, though I guess it would be nice. For a lot of cars, mostly North American, some of the more established OCC makers supply "kits". Basically they've researched optimum install location and plumbing, provide you with full instructions, all the necessary hose and fittings, and a mounting bracket. For the Prius that hasn't happened. IIRC @danlatu was the member that 3D modeled the bracket that @NutzAboutBolts used. But all sorts of mounting methods, and as many locations, have been used. FWIW, I mounted mine (a couple of Mororso 85474) on a bracket atop the lower front cross beam, under the intake manifold. That location is not readily accessible from above, suited for access during oil changes. That's just one example though. There's lots of simple-but-effective mounts. Another example: one or two have zip-tied an empty, open-topped tin can somewhere, then just dropped their can iinto it, relying on gravity to restrain it. Another clever location: on the front side of the engine, down lowish near the transaxle end, there's a blanking plate, covering the opening where the starter motor would be (when the Prius engine is employed in a regular Corolla). A mounting bracket can be incorporated into that plate, in several ways I think. This is the mother-of-all oil catch can threads, here: Oil Catch Can, Eliminate that knock! | PriusChat
A good method. I even did this on our Prime, just not zip tied or attached to the front cross member. But now our Prime's engine doesn't activate much . The benefits of charging at work and a commute inside of the EV range window.
