has anyone mounted any type of eye (or whatever) in the hatch to enable tying it down with ripe or bungee cord over oversize cargo. I don't know what happens when you drill into carbon fiber.
    Thanks

Hasn't the latch mechanism got a sturdy metal loop?

On the floor, NOT on the hatch

Hmm, they swapped it then. My Gen 3 has the metal loop in the hatch, and the latch mechanism in the sill.

    Either way ....

I would typically think of just closing a carabiner into the latch mechanism (whether that's in the sill or the hatch), and then tie something from that to the metal loop (whether that's in the hatch or the sill).

Open the hatch and use a piece of rope (or screwdriver, or?) to push the moveable latch over the rope or (?) you want to use as a tie down (putting it in the locked position). When you want to open and release the rope, pull up on the hatch open handle as you normally would to unlock it (of course the key needs to be nearby). Lock.jpg

Something like a large carabiner, ubolt, or screw-closed chain link should also work as a convenient way to hook onto the top.

Yes. And this has the added advantage of making the car think that the hatch is closed and latched -- which stops the continuous beeping that normally warns that the hatch is open when the car is in Drive.
