I am looking to see if people here have found a good aftermarket set of front brake brake pads for a 2008 2nd gen prius? No issues at 165K miles, but they are looking very thin now. I normally spring for OEM pads, but they are over $80 on amazon now. Other choices that looked like possibilities are the Wagner ZD990 ($28.47) or Wagner qc 990 ($33.10). The bosch were the cheapest and most popular, but many reviews are claiming problems or scams with them. I am leaning towards the OEM toyota pads as I will keep this car for a while, but thought I would see if some of the folks here know a good alternative? Thanks so much everyone!
Second that. I'm seeing $76.20 at some Toyota dealers, you know what you're getting. Reports about counterfeit pads have been kind of hair-raising ... some using materials that aren't even flameproof. With Amazon, it doesn't seem to be necessarily useful even to go by seller reviews and pick a specific seller ... because if they have seller A and seller B who list the "same" item, and you order it "from" seller A, and Amazon sees that they have seller B's stock in a nearer warehouse, it's possible they might just send you that. The Automotive Anti-Counterfeiting Council whitepaper linked above kind of tiptoed around the actual name(s) of the "at least one" online marketplace that does that, but I'm pretty sure I've had it happen to me, when I ordered on you-know-where.
Thanks everyone! I will go with OEM. The nearest toyota dealer is 2 hours away, but I have a doc appointment tomorrow and will try and stop by and get them from dealer. I had no idea the counterfeit thing was happening with brake pads, that might explain some of the reviews I read. Loving my prius, 3 years and 20K later and all good. I installed a toyota OEM new high volt battery when I got it, so not planning to let it go anytime soon, the OEM brakes it will be.
Akebono is a great brand for replacement but the ones sold by Amazon itself were counterfeits...OEM is worth the hassle! Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
These OEM parts are discounted. They have good service. https://trdshop.carlocktoyotaoftupelo.com/search?search_str=Brake%20pads&make=toyota&model=prius&year=2008&page_id=&page_url=
