Well, I have "Frankenprius" all put back together with a used bumper, fender, and new struts/swaybar links. I had Green Bean Battery replace the hybrid battery today because I knew that was bad from the codes I was getting. I was hoping that this would also clear up the ABS codes/lights, but no dice. I'm getting C1345 "Not learning linear valve offset" and C1368 "Linear valve offset" codes. I can use the scantool I have to clear the codes/memory, and then perform the learning procedure. The car clicks, whirs etc and the lights blink and it appears to complete the procedure but still get the same codes. Is this definitely a sign of a bad brake actuator? It doesn't run all the time like I seem to read is the hallmark sign of a bad one from it losing pressure. 2 other things: the previous owner said these lights came on when it started getting cold out but didn't know any codes that were present, and a previous shop receipt reads along the lines of "brake lights on, bled and performed system relearn, lights now off" Thanks for any insights before I end up throwing a brake actuator at this thing!
A brake actuator is a fairly intricate animal. There's no particular reason for thinking there'd be only one way for it to fail.
For a good start (that leaves me time to do other things ), there's a longish list of diagnostic codes in the brake control section of the repair manual.
Who needs a list in a repair manual when we can count on you to work for free making a list that's more knowledgeable than the repair manual writer's list?
Well, after reading in the service manual that if that code remained after performing the linear offset learning procedure the actuator needs to be replaced, that’s what I did. I bought a used one on eBay that had supposedly been bench tested and came with a 6 month warranty. I had the part itself replaced in about 3 hours and then went through the bleeding process with techstream. All good now with no warning lights on!
