Prius c 2013, 79k km. Showed overheating, engine check light and hybrid malfunction signal on the dash. Car stalled on the road. After 30 minutes, it started again and run fine. Next morning all the signals gone. One week later it has scanned by obd2 scanner and found following codes: Car Scanner ELM OBD2 DTC report Selected brand: Toyota ============1============== P3190 Raw code: 3190 ECU: Engine control unit Status: Confirmed Toyota: Poor Engine Performance; Poor Engine Power (Pri) ============2============== P0A0F Raw code: 0A0F ECU: 7EA Status: Confirmed OBDII: Hybrid drive system - engine failed to start ============3============== U0129 Raw code: C129 ECU: 7EA Status: Confirmed OBDII: Data bus, brake system control module - no communication ============4============== P3190 Raw code: 3190 ECU: Engine control unit #1 Status: Confirmed Toyota: Poor Engine Performance; Poor Engine Power (Pri) ============5============== U0073 Raw code: C073 ECU: ABS control unit #2 Status: Confirmed OBDII: Control module - data bus Off ============6============== U0124 Raw code: C124 ECU: ABS control unit #2 Status: Confirmed OBDII: Data bus, lateral acceleration sensor module - no communication ============7============== U0126 Raw code: C126 ECU: ABS control unit #2 Status: Confirmed OBDII: Data bus, steering position sensor control module - no communication ============8============== U0293 Raw code: C293 ECU: ABS control unit #2 Status: Confirmed OBDII: Lost communication with hybrid powertrain control module ============9============== P0A0F Raw code: 0A0F ECU: Hybrid engine system Status: Confirmed OBDII: Hybrid drive system - engine failed to start ============10============== U0129 Raw code: C129 ECU: Hybrid engine system Status: Confirmed OBDII: Data bus, brake system control module - no communication ============11============== U0100 Raw code: C100 ECU: BCM #1/Convenience systems Status: Confirmed OBDII: Data bus, engine control module (ECM) A - no communication ============12============== U0101 Raw code: C101 ECU: BCM #1/Convenience systems Status: Confirmed OBDII: Data bus, transmission control module (TCM) - no communication ============13============== U0151 Raw code: C151 ECU: BCM #1/Convenience systems Status: Confirmed OBDII: Data bus, supplementary restraint system (SRS) control module - no communication ============14============== U0155 Raw code: C155 ECU: BCM #1/Convenience systems Status: Confirmed OBDII: Data bus, instrumentation control module - no communication ============15============== U0164 Raw code: C164 ECU: BCM #1/Convenience systems Status: Confirmed OBDII: Data bus, AC control module - no communication ============16============== U0327 Raw code: C327 ECU: BCM #1/Convenience systems Status: Confirmed OBDII: Software incompatibility - alarm system control module ============17============== U0293 Raw code: C293 ECU: BCM #1/Convenience systems Status: Confirmed OBDII: Lost communication with hybrid powertrain control module ============18============== U0120 Raw code: C120 ECU: BCM #1/Convenience systems Status: Confirmed OBDII: Lost communication with starter/generator control module ============19============== B1242 Raw code: 9242 ECU: Entry & start / Smart key Status: Confirmed Toyota: Wireless Door Lock Tuner Circuit Malfunction (WIRELESS DOOR LOCK RECEIVER) / 42 ============20============== U0100 Raw code: C100 ECU: Entry & start / Smart key Status: Confirmed OBDII: Data bus, engine control module (ECM) A - no communication ============21============== U0142 Raw code: C142 ECU: Entry & start / Smart key Status: Confirmed OBDII: Data bus, body control module (BCM) B - no communication ============22============== U0155 Raw code: C155 ECU: Entry & start / Smart key Status: Confirmed OBDII: Data bus, instrumentation control module - no communication ============23============== U0293 Raw code: C293 ECU: Entry & start / Smart key Status: Confirmed OBDII: Lost communication with hybrid powertrain control module ============24============== U0140 Raw code: C140 ECU: Power source control Status: Confirmed OBDII: Data bus, body control module (BCM) - no communication ============25============== U0155 Raw code: C155 ECU: Power source control Status: Confirmed OBDII: Data bus, instrumentation control module - no communication ============26============== U0293 Raw code: C293 ECU: Power source control Status: Confirmed OBDII: Lost communication with hybrid powertrain control module Please suggest from where we start to identify the real culprits. Focus on load testing that battery..... More than likely 8 years is a very good run for it. A low or almost gone 12v battery will throw codes and give all kinds of issues and seem you have that issue
There are a lot of communication errors listed there. If those are consistently reported, that's where I would start looking. But first, this bit of the history: "Showed overheating, engine check light and hybrid malfunction signal on the dash. Car stalled on the road." It can be a very good idea to stop right away when an overheat warning is shown, even if only so you can find out what is overheating. In a hybrid, there's more than one possibility. What I suspect happened is the power electronics overheated (sometimes this is because of a pump that wears out), and later shut down to protect themselves, and then nothing was charging the 12 volt battery in the back. Then you just kept driving the car on what charge there was in the 12 volt battery, until it finally pooped out (much like a spring break trip I took once). If that's what happened, the communication error codes were the last words of all the car's computers as they dropped offline.
