Hi All, After suffering the loss of our beloved 2012 Prius due to theft pre-Covid, we found a Prime replacement. 2020 PRIUS Prime Upgrade (Toyota Canada name) with 5075 km on it. Full set of winter tires, factory roof racks and hitch. 28800$ plus taxes. Blizzard Pearl. Softex interior. Drove the car home from Montreal, Quebec, which is 3000 km (1864 miles) from home in Winnipeg, MB. Love it. Looking forward to some affordable road trips and no GHG commutes for my wife.
Congrats! Reminds me of when I bought my PiP in 2016; I took an early morning flight for $200 to go to Sault Ste. Marie to pick it up and did the 8-hour drive home from there the same day, after doing the negotiations over the phone. It was also 2 years old and saved a decent amount from new. Not quite the journey you did, but still a fun adventure. Quebec does have the most generous incentives in Canada these days... Ironically, my car also originally came from Quebec as well. Cheers.
Congrats on your new PP. The PP sold in Canada has the factory option of engine heater installed, I am wondering if yours have it installed. I considered it on mine but the dealer did not have that option. Our climate is closer to Montreal, but I know Winnipeg is much colder. IIRC, @MSantos is from your area.
If you mean an engine block heater, that’s not standard issue (at least not in 2021). If you mean traction battery heater, I thought all Primes of every year had that. Edit: oops. Misread your statement. I guess you’re saying US models don’t even have the option for a block heater?
The traction battery heater in Canada(and Alaska) will operate for loner periods than on cars sold in the US. Block heaters might be a dealer option in places with harsh winters. Assuming there is a block heater available for the car model.
Correct. If you go to the Canadian Toyota site, you can build a car with the optional engine block heater. That option is not available on the US Toyota site. Some dealers can install it as a dealer option, but many dealers do not. I was just wondering if yours came with it.
It did not. I didn’t ask for one (never had one but the Montreal area is not usually cold enough to need one—my brother in law lives 7 hours north of Montreal and he’s had some on his earlier cars, though he doesn’t seem to worry about it with his latest car—Subaru Forester).
Ours does not yet have a engine block heater - but we are going to get one. We have some work to do to clean out the old garage to keep the car out of the weather, but -40 C mornings require some preheat regardless!
