2013 Prius C android auto head unit upgrade with camera

Any double-DIN deck will fit, Toyota was generous with the space.

I put a Sony deck in ours right when we bought it. 3+ years on it's still doing great. Our car had a camera from the factory, so I integrated that rather than needing to retrofit. There are some other threads with camera retrofit info, have a search.

The Sony works very well, supports both Carplay and Android auto. Most people who ride in the car have no idea it isn't a factory feature. It blends in well.

A few systems can directly read the steering wheel interface directly but most require a translator box of some sort, so budget around $120 for a good one just in case.

I recommend talking to the people at Crutchfield. They have very good customer service, and they know what they sell.

Not a lot of tools needed for head unit installation. Some that would help:

• a quality crimper and some caps or butt-splices fit for ~22ga wire
• good diagonal cutters, electronics grade
• wire stripper
• plastic prybar (yes they're real, you use it to remove plastic interior parts without damage)
• fiberglass electrician's "fishing pole" particularly for doing camera retrofit
• plastic zipties and double-sided foam tape are great problem solvers to keep the job neat
• electrical tape

It is possible to use the factory microphone, but not easy. Toyota used a weird microphone with an integrated preamp, where most aftermarket decks are expecting a bare condenser mic with no funny stuff. So most decks won't get along with the built-in mic but you could get lucky. In my case I disassembled the factory mic and gutted the casing. I removed the actual mic and the preamp module, and stuffed the Sony mic in that location. So I'm using the factory location, factory wires down from the ceiling into the deck... just a different mic inside the little pod overhead. I won't lie, that was the most difficult part to do.

 

The Sony I have is no longer sold, it has been replaced by another. I think it was the XAV-100? I'm not near the car this week.

I'm not a fan of insulation-displacement connectors (like the posi-tap) in mobile usage. They are great for telephone closets where the wires never move, but when combined with vibration and movement the results are sometimes less than satisfactory.

 

The prybar is so unnecessary. I used a tape measure tip and put it up under the facia below the radio and pulled the panel out.
you could probably use an old credit card or something..

I replaced my c2 radio with a c3 radio.
