As Northern NJ is dealing with remnants of the hurricane Ida, I'm are currently getting more than 2 inches of rain per hour in my area. I just looked through the window and noticed that my (parked) 2015 Prius is standing in water. How much? Front wheel is halfway submerged. I've also noticed that water was slightly above the bottom "gap" of the passenger door. Very possible, that water was an inch higher before I've noticed it. I took some photographs for insurance claim just in case. Even tough I can move it to slightly higher elevation, I'm afraid that turning it on right now would do more damage to electrical system than it is worth it. What do you think? For sure, I'm expecting the carpet to be wet. From the mechanical standpoint, the question is, will it be safe/wise to drive it once the rain stops (in 10 hours)? If so, what to look for in upcoming days? What would be the first signs of the water damage?
sorry to hear it, you folks took a beating! i would do my best to dry everything out, get right on it with wet/dry vac, fans, dehumidifier, baking soda, whatever google advises. check the 12v/spare tire/hybrid battery for moisture. after everything seems completely dry, power up and see if any trouble lights come on. call insurance co
I would check the engine filter for water, if no water then engine is good. If water is on the filter then chances are water made its way in the engine. I heard remove the spark plugs then turn the engine over a few times and check if water shoots out of the cylinders. Continue the process til no water are shooting, install plugs and drain engine oil. Refill engine oil and start r’ up.
I'd suggest a look at this thread, where posts 14 and 20 refer you to a Toyota TSB (the number is in post 20) all about quickly classifying your car as to the kinds of consequences you need to check for according to what areas the water occupied.
