Scared to know what is wrong... is my baby dying at 237k? Mass air flow sensor?

    This makes some sense, as I did smell something acrid earlier on Monday and it went away. Definitely heavy A/C use all summer. No previous issues running A/C at ice temps for long times until this week.

    If the AM2 fuse is blown, I wouldn't be able to start?? So if it's still driving the fuse is OK?

    Dealer appointment today I guess. I am re-purchasing my car... sigh.

    Yes, if the AM2 fuse opens, the entire dash will be dead and the car will not turn on.
    If the car is still drivable, the fuse is currently intact, but there's no guarantee that a faulty pump motor (if actually bad) won't pop the fuse a mile down the road.

    Found a non-dealer mechanic through a mutual Prius driving friend. His diagnostics showed essentially the same thing mine did and I will be picking up an inverter pump shortly.

    I can make the code appear by driving fast with air conditioning on. Won't take long before the lights will come on and I will need to pull over and cool off. Driving 30 or 40 miles an hour with the windows down seems to be tolerable.

    So meanwhile I've been to the parts store twice due to their errors (grrrrr AutoZone!) And no air conditioning on a very hot sunny day means I am super crabby!!;

    Will be glad when this is done later tonight!

    Yep, I got really good at being a DIY mechanic during the years I owned Fords, Chevys, and Chryslers! Since I started buying Toyota's (in 2005) I mostly get my grease monkey hands busy working on my daughters and their husbands cars. (Saturn, Suzuki, Honda but a VERY old) As their cars have gone, I've advised them to buy better quality ones and they now have a Sienna, Mazda CX-5, and a Corolla so back to just doing regular maintenance....none of the fun stuff, yet! Come on "check engine" lights!!

    I suggest that you purchase the inverter coolant pump from Toyota (either a dealer or a reputable online source) as quite a few on this forum have had poor results using aftermarket parts.

    Thank you for that laugh... I completely know what you mean. But you only learn something when you get to solve a problem... Hence why my Toyota driving kids didn't have the same "opportunity" growing up that I did, lol.

    Thank you for that reminder. I ended up with a part from AutoZone which supposedly has a lifetime warranty. We shall see.

    Well... so far so good! The part was installed and I drove home with A/C on full blast and I took as many high speed roads and hills as possible... No errors!!

    Best of all, the guy who did the work had a more sophisticated code reader than I have and he said my hybrid battery was fine!

    So - no mass airflow sensor, JUST the inverter water pump, and so far, so good!! (dealer had said I needed MAF a week or two ago, so maybe that will still be needed, but one step at a time!)

    A hard day of driving and idling with a/c yesterday and today and zero codes!! Calling it fixed!! Canceling the MAF sensor for now. Fingers all crossed.
