Hi everyone; We had a really bad storm here in St.Louis last night, wind up to 70 mph, walls of rain and unbelievable lightning. We had a chance to see it coming on radar so I went to the garage and unplugged. our Prime. What’s the opinion right or wrong thing to do ???
As with any kind of electrical device, it's a good idea to isolate (un-plug) it from the electrical grid when the grid is subject to sudden power surges during a lightning storm. This holds true for your Prime, your TV, your microwave, your computer and any other electronics vulnerable to voltage spikes. While it's possible that a surge could damage your vehicle, it's more likely that the EVSE would come up as the loser. Even so, I can't see any advantage to leaving it plugged in under the circumstances.
