Hi guys, new here i'm having hard time making a decision. i have 2016 Jeep wrangler unlimited automatic. That thing is a beast and drink gas like crazy. The jeep is almost fully paid. 3 more months and i'll be done with the payments. In 3 months, no more car payments… However, my jeep is getting old, it's a 2016 and we are in 2021. It has (110k km / 70k miles) already. No issue but it will approach certain repairs . Sparkplugs ($400) change and brakes ($800) , and most 6 years old jeeps i've seen had camshaft ($2500+) and heater core issues ($900) .My jeep is a willys edition and it doesn,t have any of the issue i mentionned but it will eventually and maybe sooner than i think.. and because i have a willys ed it will eventually need a new limited slip drive ($1000+) i expect to spend atleast $5000 in repair in the next 3 years on the jeep if i keep it. i don't use the jeep much, i have an older cars to do my errands. i also keep changing jobs all the time. So my income isn't steady. Because i can have zero income for weeks and i can not take the risk to have car payments again. I want to go greener and my jeep is worth alot of money.. the jeep wrangler hold its value pretty well. Probably the best. i can get a 2021 prius base without financing it if i just trade my jeep. If i chose a higher trim prius i may need to finance 6-8k but something is holding me. My jeep doesn't depreciate much anymore… the big depreciation drop usually happens the first year when you leave the dealer parking lot. Then the depreciation keep dropping but at a lower rate. This is true with every cars.. i can always look for a 2020 or 2019 prius but i can't find the color i like… and the dealer will try to rip me off with my jeep. I will lose money atleast $6-7k trying to sell the my jeep. Just to go greener and save on gas i will lose $7k in that sort of trade. And if i get a 2021, i will need to finance $7-8k which i can't. my jeep will be fully paid in 3 months. 20 mpg versus 55 mpg with a prius. A prius should last 10 years before needing expensive repair (battery inverter etc..) A jeep wrangler will have expensive repairs too but should last very long if well maintained . The here up north we have heavy snow and icy road. The prius awd e doesn't have sunroof. And i need a sunroof badly due to my claustrophobia. Sunroof is very important to me but i can probably live without .. but all wheel drive is almost a must where i live. You can live without awd too but its not practical. You often get stuck in the snow..especially going uphill and getting parked. i don't know what to do… ioniq = has sunroof but no awd Prius awd = no sunroof All other green cars are just too expensive. A hybrid jeep is $80K lol. i don't know… has anyone ever gone from a jeep wrangler to a prius? Do you regret the move?
Wrangler 2016 unlimited automatic was $50k+ when new… today a used 2016 unlimited one in my area goes for $34k-38k New one 2021 are $ 60k for the full unlimited. And hybrids 2021 are $80k prius prime 2021 are $40k Prius tech 2021 with sunroof are $35k Used vehicle market is horrible too… my jeep worth more now than 2 years ago.. thanks to covid.
My sister just bought a 2021 Prius Prime, and it was way less than $40k. I believe my sister got a $4,500 tax rebate. That's the reason she bought hers new. A used car won't get the tax rebate, because someone else already got it when they bought it new. The exact amount may vary from state to state (or province??).
Yea, between $8k to $12k but dealers boots the price accordingly .. the incentives are meant to encourage dealers and car makers to sell those cars as much as it is an incentives for consumers to buy one.. in other words, prices on hybrids plug and full EV are artificially boosted in my area. 2021 cars today are more expensive than back in 2019 .. i don't know if this has something to do with covids… but even a stupid honda civic is $5k more expensive now than 5 years ago..
yes, there is a severe shortage of cars (and many other products). many dealer lots are close to empty. it was caused by a computer chip shortage due to low projected demand due to covid. some used cars are selling for more than new msrp because the new are unavailable
One Toyota dealership told my sister that they normally have about 700 used cars on the lot at any given time. They currently only have 70, and half of those are already sold. This was about a month ago.
After reading stuff on prius, ive learned that stealing the catalyc converter on prius is easy and that theft is on the rise… did toyota fix the problem on 20-22 years models?
i wonder how much longer these places can stay in business. they get most of their profit from service from what i've read, but that's probably down to, due to covid
No, I don't think so. Catalytic converter shields are available for the 4th Gen Prius. I called one of the manufacturers, and they confirmed that a 2021 Prius Prime would use the shield labeled as being for the 4th Gen. Edit: I called Cap City Muffler, the makers of the Cat Security shield.
I have a Cat Security on my Prime. I do not know of any confirmed cases of thefts from Gen 4 / Prime. One of the cats is partially hidden and would be very hard to cut out of the car. It is much easier for thieves to get them from Gen 1, 2, or 3.
