Any way to fix this on my steering wheel? Showed up this week probably because my hand is usually right here while driving. I was thinking maybe a heart gun on low might tighten it back or something. 20210729_135141.jpg

same result here. Not an elegant solution but a SMALL clear drop glue stopped the expanding tear. Sloppy design to cover cheap material.

It's a super common problem on the Softex steering wheels. Mine has a little bit of wrinkle. Some people have gotten the dealer to replace it under warranty, but lots of dealers refuse.

    It's a 2017, bought it new in May 2018.

Thinking maybe the heated steering wheel might help it after conditioning it.

Might try this warranty replacement but actually I think I just literally hit my mileage limit for my warranty lol.

And it's probably going to be an arm and a leg to get a replacement myself since it has the heated option installed.

I wonder if this problem still exists in newer models. I know 2017 was the first model year for the PP. And I think I have read some 2018 models showing the same problem, but how about 2020 or 2021 models? They haven't been around for a long yet, but some of the earlier models had this problem showing up very quickly within the first year.

If you plan to keep the car for a long time, it may be a good idea to have the steering wheel wrapped proactively. Something like this may look even better than OEM?

Interesting, I'm currently awaiting a call back from dealership in Honolulu so they can take pics and decide if they will cover as my basic just expired on the 9th lol

Yeah, if it can be covered by warranty, that would be the best. But it may still get the same problem in 2-3 years down. If not, the DIY cover should not be too hard nor too expensive. Changing the OEM steering wheel, on the other hand, would cost $$$. I don't plan to keep my PP any longer than a few years, so I am not too worried about it.

If the dealer doesn’t fit it, since it’s such a nice car I would take it to a Upholsterer and have them remove the softex and re-wrap it with genuine leather.

I’m not sure. It would be worth it though. Nothing worse then peeling crappy steering wheel, or a horrible cover. It just makes the car seem old!

Mine isn't peeling yet, but it has a small wrinkle. I tried two different covers. Took them back. Too fat! also, even though they were hard to get over the wheel, they still slid around. What I'd like is the steering wheel off my wife's Trim 2 Gen 4 Prius. But she'd spot that right off.

Don't know there, but here (Portugal) there is a roughly standard price of €50 (us$59) for that service.
