I went to drive my 2006 Prius and after it being turned on for about 5-10 seconds, it started making a very loud sound from the engine. I immediately turned it off and tried turning it back on a bunch of time but the noise did not go away. For some more information: It is at 150,000ish miles and there are no check engine lights coming on. It got an oil change and maintenance check 2 weeks ago. I drove it 4 days ago and everything was fine. It has been fairly warm but it got down to the low 40s last night and it is raining today. I looked under the car and it does not appear to be missing the catalytic converter. I have not idea what to do? Should I leave it running and or will my engine be damaged? Please Help! Sydney
Welcome to PriusChat!! Does it sounds like a tank, or can you describe the "very loud noise" you hear coming from the engine area?
When I was a kid, my mom started the Jeep and Rat tat tat tat so she quickly shut it off. Secons later a kitten ran out from under the car with a bit of a head wound. The jeep was fine but the cat never was quite right after that.
That happened to me once (in a former vehicle with multiple fan/alternator/steering/AC belts), and I had to scoop up what was left of the cat and have it put down. The day that happened was not one of my favorites.
