I have a 2005 prius that I recently changed out the rear brake shoes and drums. The passenger side went fine but I cannot get the drum to go on the driver side. I have replaced all the hardware including the shoes came as a quantity of 4 from the same manufacturer the drums are the same. I have the brake adjuster all the way closed on the drivers side. The drums will both fit on the passenger side but neither of them on the driver side. The shoes just seem to stick out further and the drum will catch on one side or the other. I have adjusted the brakes up, down, left and right with no luck. I have bled the brakes hoping to push them in farther thinking that was the problem but no luck. This is driving me crazy. I have done rear brakes on multiple vehicles before and never had a problem. I compared the new shoes to the old and they appear to be an exact match. My next option is to buy a different pair of rear shoes. Any suggestions. One thing I forgot to mention when I did the brake job I did forget I had the parking brake on but released the brake before I assembled the new shoes and parts. I
@jacads did you get this figured out? I just did the rear brakes on my 05 Prius, there's a star wheel you can tighten up to set the brakes. It will allow you to get the drum back on if you hadn't gotten it all put back together yet.
Assuming it's assembled correctly, if the wheel cylinder is compressed and: I have the brake adjuster all the way closed on the drivers side. Then the shoes should be at minimum diameter.
Yeah, you got it. I saw the quote, but you never know if the terminology/ points of reference are the same thing that we both assumed he meant.
