Well, hello 2021 model! I pulled the trigger. Three days ago I wasn’t considering trading in my 2020 PP XLE but the current rebate plus demand for my used car made it make sense.
Bought the 2021 PP XLE, blue with moonstone softex interior. Came with the door edge guards, the body side moldings, rear bumper thingy, paint protection film already on it. All weather floor and cargo mats and alloy wheels locks.

    Base Model: $30,000
    Optional equipment included: $1,132
    Delivery / handling: $995
    Total sticker: $32,127
    CB Rebate: $5,500
    Doc fee: $400
    Zurich protection: $249
Trade in of my 2020 PP XLE - blue w/black interior: $24,000
    tax: $230
    Title: $20

After my current loan was paid off, I’m in a new Toyota loan which is $3,646 more than I owed on the 2020.
But when I get the $4502 tax credit, I’m $856 to the positive on the car. I’ll owe less than what I had on the 2020, and have a year newer car with 9 miles on it.
The only thing that would’ve made it better is if my Uber information has been updated in time to get the additional $750 credit because I would’ve qualified and they had the form out. But I hadnt updated it since the last time I bought the 2020 and then just never thought about it with Covid and everything so I suppose I could’ve waited until after the weekend but likely the car would not have been there. This was their last Prius prime of any model on the lot. And the trade-in was really good. They came up a few hundred. Must’ve really wanted it.
new car is charging now. Did all this, this afternoon.

Congratulations on your new PP. It is such a great feeling that you can turn in your 1-year-old car and get into a brand new car and make a net profit. I just did the calculation on my 2020 PP LE which I owned only for 10 months and drove a little over 3Kmiles. but in the end, the cost (or in my case the profit) was -$0.445/mile or -$101.08/mo. The minus sign means every mile I drove that car, I was making $0.445.

This was after subtracting everything I spent on the car including, the cost of the car, tax, registration, insurance, gas, electricity, accessories purchased, and even the cost of the car wash. I can't think of any other car that can pull of this "efficiency". ;)

Congrats!!!! I guess PP is probably the only model that we have this luxury to trade-in yearly at break-even or a even make profitable ;)

So I finally decided to take the deal. Trade-in my 2012 Prius three with 102k miles. Went to multiple dealer, they wont give a better than $5500 trade and plus they are not going below MSRP sale price. So this is what I end up getting.
2021 Prius Prime XLE - Wind Chill Pearl White
    MSRP $31,948
    Trade-In credit $5500
    + Sales tax 2281
    - Toyota Cash Incentive $5000
    - NYS incentive $500
+ Doc Fee $75, Inspection $10, Tire tax $12.50, and Title transfer fee $80
    Out the Door $23406
    - $4500 Federal at next year file tax.
So this should be $18906.5 include all tax, fee, discount, and credit for swapping 2012 Prius with 2021 Prius Prime XLE. This is not bad.

In Massachusetts: 2022s are starting to role in. Looks like 2k vs 5.5K toyota rebate. Dealers are offering at best 500 dealer markdown on 2021, assume it would be msrp for 2022s at this point.

Bought Prius Prime XLE from Empire Toyota in Oneonta, NY. They have 40+ Priuses left in their inventory. There are some nice colors available. It was out of state purchase. They offered 4k and 1k discount as Toyota Incentives. No mark up. Ask for Austin.

i'm reading that used cars are now selling for more than msrp of new, due to lack of availability.

those might be good prices in this environment

Success! After many discouraging and maddening interactions with dealers in Virginia and Maryland, I ended up taking the train to Connecticut to buy my new Prius Prime. I really have to thank Priuschat posters; I wouldn't have known about the Toyota incentives in other states, or even have considered traveling to buy a car.

    2021 Prius Prime LE
    Blue Magnetism, black interior
All-weather floor mats, edge guards, etc.
    $4000 Toyota incentive
$1000 "customer cash," whatever that is
    Out-the-door price $26,889.19
Looking forward to that tax credit!

I couldn't be happier about my experience with Toyota of Stamford. Their communication was great, via email, text messages, and phone calls. Raul even picked me up at the train station in my own reserved new car -- a classy touch, I thought.

(I don't understand why Toyota of Stamford had multiple Blue Magnetism LEs on their lot when everyplace closer had only silver, white, or black, mostly as XLEs or Limiteds. I also don't understand why some states have incentives and others don't. Any ideas?)

2021 Prius Prime XLE Wind Chill Pearl
    $31,420 MSRP
    $1303.93 VA Sales Tax
    -$5500 MA Toyota Cash
    -$4500 Federal Cashback
    $22723.93

Would it be advisable that i buy this in MA due to the $1000 increased cashback? I'm located in VA so MD is right across the pond from me but they only have $4500 cashback. $1000 savings worth the wear and tear of 300 miles trip or potentially pay an X amount and have the car shipped?

Is there really any chance at getting any lower than MSRP? I’m in SoCal and tried a few dealers on the 2022 since they started rolling in about 2-3 weeks ago and getting pretty hard locked at MSRP minus incentives.

Just be careful doing out-of-state car purchases in MA. MA does not issue temp plates. You will either have to have the legal license plate (temp or permanent) issued by your own state before closing the sale or have to close the sale before traveling to MA. Or else, you would have to travel back to MA after closing the sale and bring the title and license plate back to them.

If you wanna hear my 2 cents?
I purchased 21 Prime in MASS few weeks ago.
Now, I think the specific dealership caused most of the issue, (can PM me for specific)
but it was a sh*t show. In the end it turned out fine.
They refused to hear what PA does and they wanted to use a 3rd party that took 30 DAYS!
    I said no!
I drove there to sign papers and hand them a cashiers check (600mi rt), but could only drool over the prime (indoors, hehe)
but they finally called a notary in my town and got the low down.
Still they said they never did a PA reg. I had to PRESSURE THEM HARD and HEAVY calling and emailing daily and
also I think finally when I left the manager a voice mail they changed their thought process.
Well in the end they gave me a check for my tax/tag/reg back.
And they drove the car to me and I did it myself.
    What a headache.
Would I do it again? Not for $1k....at least not that way ..waiting 2 weeks.
I would say hey, here give me the car I take full liability and let me drive that sucker home. done deal.
...that will prob happen soon upgrading my C for a Prime.

Yes get your plate switched etc and the full monty before the deal is done.
    Good Luck!
...hey it is still $1k saved right?
btw...some MA dealers are saying no to out of state buyers...just a heads up.
I needed to make this happen with no dealer discount for the misses...i think i got the last blue on the east coast.
My pick would have been the wind chill!
Only a few have the inventory

MA does do temp plates now but not sure about them issuing them to out-of-state residents.
