I have a 2017 PP premium model with about 46k miles on odometer. I started noticing a significant delay in the release of the charge connector during the charge. I found the metal thingy at the top would not go back and hold the connector so I have to squeeze the lever for about 30 seconds to release the charge connector. The other day, I had to stand in the rain for about 30 seconds trying to release the charger from a public charging station. Definitely not the charger issue as it does the same thing at my house. Does anyone have this annoying problem?
I have not seen that issue, yet. I wonder if the release / docking clamp mechanism is likely powered by the 12vdc battery, I have had 12vdc battery issues in the past. When that happens there are weird problems everywhere. I bet the mechanism is not getting enough current from the 12vdc battery.
I have not thought about 12v battery could impact or regulate the charging or release mechanism in particular. I guess it’s possible though.
To allow it to be "locked" against tampering or unauthorized disconnection (can be "locked" and limited model requires key fob proximity to release... I never lock mine, but can do so if desired).
I don't have the problem, or the locking connector, but is it possible that the 4-5 year old mechanism is starting to get gummed up? Maybe squirt some cleaner/solvent into it.
No visible gunk or gummed up metal thingy when it is exposed to view biting the charger. And, I don’t lock it when I charge inside my garage. Replaced key fob battery a few months ago so I’m pretty sure the problem has nothing to do with it.
