Found while going in to remove hybrid battery. Never saw this before, no idea what it is, but it doesn't look good, whatever it is! Markings are EMLA 0795100100011
Right? I'm the second owner, have NO idea what the heck the original owner installed here. Looks like when the Stealership diagnosed the battery and ECU it fell out of .... somewhere. Certainly not a Toyota looking job, whatever it is!
Are you able to follow the wires to another connection or source? Tine wires, appears to me that it's audio or video related like for the rear cam or so. Does that still work? Best regards, Nick Black 2007 Prius
by the look of it, I wonder if it does anything anymore. I would be tempted to check it if still has power with a test light. Being in the trunk it is suspicious that it might be something for a trailer setup, audio or backup camera related. There is a lot of corrosion. If that was sitting in the spare tire well, looks like you might have some water issues like I did. I had lots of water in the spare tire after a good soaking rain. Was the roof seals by the hatch that cracked. Easy fix if you are interested.
My money goes on an aftermarket electronic rust inhibitor. Look for another similar unit at the end of the second wire. iPhone ?
If it was a rust inhibitor, it didn't. The corrosion on the floor of the trunk is due to a bad hatch seal (since replaced). It's hooked into the rear lights -- I'm thinking someone tried to add a backup beeper or camera, but there's no other evidence of either that I can find so far. I'm just going to take it all out.
Battery hole is probably really rusted out in the bottom. Seen a few on here so bad the battery can fall out of the car.
If you've lived in Guam for any length of time at all, then you already know about corrosion prevention, AND tropical downpours so I won't go into that. Your car might have been a former fleet or company vehicle (like mine) with some non-OEM "safety" gear - like a backup beeper. Delete it and get on with your life! The first time I made it to Guam was aboard a NOAA ship, and we all had access to the CPO club. They would have let me in anyway Somebody "forgot" to tell the scientists and deck crew what happens when you walk into a USN club "covered" (wearing a hat.) I didn't buy a drink all night! Good Luck!
