Don't have the car manual so don't know exactly which prius I have even when I search the qr code - all I see there is "prime" (if there's other info in there that would tell me the exact model please let me know). How can I get a spare tire into this car that fits under the floorboard? I see there is space for a spare but the foam with the tools in it (whats the name for this piece of the car) covers the space for the spare. So I need to buy what to replace the foam part so it fits the spare? The current tire sizes are p195/65R15 - what size spare do I need? Does 135/80R16 work? Appreciate the info - thanks!
confused, do you have a plug in model? if not, it isn't a prime. if so, there's no room for a spare. go to toyota.com/owners, sign up and plug in your vin. it will tell you exactly what model you own
There is no 2016 Prius Prime. Since you have under deck foam, you must have non-Prime regular Gen4 Prius. This thread might help. It is using a full-size spare stored under the deck but also gives some specs for the compact spare as well. If you search the Gen4 forum for compact spare, you will find many other threads. I had a 2016 Prius 4. It came with foam underneath the back deck. I purchased a small spare and it fits just fine in that space. I had to cut the foam so the spare tire would fit.
Spare tire specs are spelled out in the Owner's Manual. That said, both gen 3 and 4 have 195/65R15 stock tire, but for some reason known only Toyota, they revised the spare tire from a 16" to 17", going from gen 3 to 4. Both have roughly the same OD as 195/65R15 (which is good), but the 17" (gen 4) spare is pushing it a little, has an OD significantly less. Accordingly, you might want to stick with 3rd gen size in your search. Plug in that size at tire rack site and you can see the readily available options. For rims, try going to one of the online Toyota Parts websites (McGeorge Toyota Parts for one), plug in stats for a 2010 Prius (if you want the 16"), and search for "wheels". About 3~4 hits down you'll get one hit for "wheels" category; choose that and you'll be able to find the spare tire rim. Here's excerpts from third and fourth gen, with the spare tire specs (third gen first):
Be careful. There are two versions of the model 4. They have different tires. I suspect that the hubs are the same. You should make sure if you have the touring or the regular model 4.
I just bought this spare tire on ebay (I don't have plug in version): 2010 thru 2021 TOYOTA PRIUS PLUG IN SPARE TIRE WHEEL DONUT 135/80/16 5 LUGS. TIRE IS IN GREAT CONDITION AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE PICTURES. WILL ALSO FIT PLUG IN MODELS WITH 5 LUGS 5X100 BOLT PATTERN
Hello Lenox..is this still available/confused..why did you buy a plug in spare if you don't have the car?!
AFAIK the 4th gen Prius, Prius Prime AND all the 3rd gen's, regardless of OEM tire size (15" vs 17"), can use either a 3rd or 4th gen spare.
Ok, so B.C may be the greatest place on the American subcontinent...but being that a Prius 18 PRIME WILL/WILL NOT work out insofar as back area storage..which size is worse in interior intrusion AND handling? Why did Toy use a 17" on some models (thought that was gen 3)?
