What car does your Prius replace?

We have more cars than we need at the moment, so when we bought the Prius for commuting, the car that made the most sense to sell and we're trying to sell now is the '90 porsche carrera (16mpg).

I can say, when you do the hybrid vs non-hybrid cost analysis, the hybrid definitely makes financial sense.

 

Last car before getting Prius: Toyota Echo. Great little car.

Also, over a third of the people responding had gas guzzlers?!? No wonder you love your Prius so much! I mean, I love mine, too, but I've always gone for cars with great MPG.

The '06 Prius replaced a 2000 Corolla that had 100,000 miles. My wife drives the Prius for her long commute to work, I drive the Corolla for my short commute to work, and the '04 Sienna is relagated to the garage unless we have a long trip or have to haul something. Total gas savings are $100 per month over the prior arrangement. The Sienna gets 30 mpg on the highway, but horrible mileage in town. That's probably due to its weight. The Sienna's computer shows instantaneous mileage and lifetime mileage. Lifetime is 21.6. Instantaneous mileage is in the single digits until it is up to speed. I figure that keeping the miles off of the Sienna increases its resale value in addition to saving gas. May sell it this summer after the traditional family road trip. The Prius is our 8th Toyota and we love it.

 

The wife replaced her 2002 RAV4L with a '07 Prius and she loves it.

 

Seat Ibiza 1.9 TDI. 57 UK mpg, bout the same as the Prius, and more driveable.

Prius is much bigger and has better emissions.

 

I sold my '97 Porsche Carrera. Was able to buy my '06 Prius and still invest a nice little bit of change.

And, since the car's new and I feel pretty okay with the warranty coverage that it'll be under for the upcoming years, I'm free to budget less money for a "rainy day," car-wise, too. That's another nice little bonus.

The Porsche was fun to drive, but simply too expensive to be worth it to me.

 

the Prius replaces two cars! My 2003 Ford Escape lost both it's place in the garage and it's role as my everyday car. After 2000 miles I'm consistently getting 55 mpg--3x what the Escape gets!!! Because my wife and I didn't need a fourth car, the beloved 1990 Saab 900 Turbo got the boot. Note: Prius/Saab--I've always had a passion for cars somewhat out of mainstream thinking.

Our garage, with my Prius and my wife's Porsche 911, now looks like the ying and yang of the automotive world--engineering for max efficiency or max performance.

 

A 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T.

It wasn’t a bad little car. However, I always thought the delayed-reaction acceleration from the turbo charger was annoying. Push the gas pedal. Pause for a second, then, go.

It had to have the clutch replaced at 63,000 miles and the clutch master and slave cylinders replaced at 100,000 miles. It also chewed through batteries like they were going out of style. I had to replace three batteries in the past three years. Otherwise, no defects.


Way back in the late ‘80s I had a Honda CRX HF. Got great gas mileage (about the same as I get from my new Prius), but that little 62 hp engine, all by itself, just wasn’t quite powerful enough to make sense.

 

I recently replaced my 2007 FJ Cruiser for a 2005 Prius. I am now waiting for my 2007 Prius Touring Edition, which should arrive sometime in January.

Two new Priuses in the family replace a 4 Runner and a BMW 325i. I drove the BMW, and I did agonize about replacing it. It was paid for, it's just about the perfect vehicle. More fun to drive than anything I've owned. But - I really prefer the Prius, mostly because it's so comfortable. I was really surprised about this. I miss the 6-cylinder engine occasionally, like when I want to change lanes on the freeway and everyone's cutting me off. I guess I don't know how well the Prius accelerates on the freeway yet. So I'm not quite as aggressive in this car.

But - I'm not much of a speed demon any more, and I didn't like the stiff suspension of the Beemer - it was not comfortable to sit in. It did have a couple of nice features that I miss - the passenger mirror rotating down in reverse, being able to open all the windows with the remote key, the sunroof I thought I'd really miss it after it sold, but I really don't.

The BMW got 23 mpg, the 4 Runner got 15

Toyota RAV4 used mostly as a fishing car. The Prius has plenty of room but I wish it had a little more ground clearence. FishHawk

 

I replaced a 2000 Lexus LS400, my dream car. Got 27mpg highway and 21mpg in everyday driving. Now getting a bit better mileage but my insurance did not change :-(

 

My Prius replaced my '00 C5 Vette auto



The two cars top my "Best Cars I've ever owned" list. Not because of cost or flash. Simply because they both excelled at what they were built for. The Vette only ties with the Prius because it got 28-30mpg freeway and still ran 12.5@111mph in the 1/4mile and could slide around an autocross course.

 

bought a 2006 mazdaspeed6 a month ago. just traded it in on prius after getting 22mpg + having to use a minumum octane of 93. ridiculous. now i love my new prius.

I bought the Prius 06 in March and sold my wife's Honda Accord 01 in April. Before we bought the Prius, I drove a 95 Toyota 4Runner 4X4 (16 MPG) and my wife drove the Accord. Now I drive the Prius and my wife drives the 4Runner (two miles per day). We will need a replacement for our 4Runner in the next seven to eight months. We are looking for a seven-seater SUV to acommodate our extended family. Hopefully, a new large hybrid SUV will be available in August or September 07. Do you have any suggestion for a green seven-seater SUV?

I don't think there is one. The biggest hybrid SUV is the Highlander, and I don't think (don't quote me) that it comes with a third row.


I replaced a '02 Isuzu Trooper. It was in perfect shape, and I loved it, but it had to go. Bye-bye, 16 mph.

My bad...the Highlander limited comes with third row seating.

 

Just saw this poll, Cool!! my Prius replaced a Nissan Xterra.... so i guess a mid-sized SUV. The X was a really really good vehicle, especially herein the mountains with the 4 wheel drive, but my wife and I were going crazy with the 14-18 miles per gallon, and only the two of us driving to work each day.

Since July when we got the Prius we figure we've saved 403 gallons of gas, and $889.00 dollars we would have spent on gas. Not to mention the emissions that were not released into the atmosphere!!! Making the earth and all its creatures that much Happier!!! :lol: :lol:
