2022 Prius Prime now available on Toyota Canada site

Look at the price I thought Toyota raise the price, forget it CAD

 

New Toyotas of any model are scarce here. My dealer typically has hundreds of models to choose from. Today he has 10 and nothing that is built in Japan ergo no Hybrids of any sort. Sad.
Their Chevrolet dealership is closing and being repurposed to sell used cars only. Short of that there is nothing for them to sell. Their Ford division isn’t much better.

 

So, 2023 for the new models. Or who knows.

guess that was already a done deal, with that blacked out special ed 2022 Prius.

 

Just spotted this myself, and am quite disappointed, but not overly surprised. Our 2010 Prius is due for replacement and the Prius Prime looks to be the best alternative. I just hate it that they didn't address the Infotainment system.

Normally, I'd be all over the Upgrade with Technology Package, but now it's a real quandry picking between that and the base Prime.

 

I faced that same debate a few months ago when I got my 2021 Prime and went with the base model (full disclosure, I strongly prefer cloth seats, so that also played a role in my decision, but avoiding the the “big radio” with all it implied—particularly the lack of HVAC physical switches—weighed more heavily [the extra savings helped as well]).

 

Strange quandary, when the “premium” levels have so many turn-offs; wish Toyota would smell the coffee on this one. And the base models are missing some features you DO want, as punishment for your cheaping out.

Not holding my breath that it’ll change any time sion: like a lot of companies it seems they’re near-completely isolated from consumer feedback.

 

The regular Prius for 2022 model year is up there too, and I noticed this apparent typo in specs, have circled the likely errors:

Yes, it will probably be the cost savings that eventually tilt towards the base. If they all cost the same, it would be a tough call. Time for me to go research aftermarket sound system upgrades...

 

The main thing that bugs me about base is the 3-door touch-to-unlock omission. It's like punishment for buying base. For me it means there's not a single level I like.

 

It kinda bothers me why we, in Europe, have the second best version of Prius Prime.

Researching this is proven to be quite difficult, because in every country it feels like there is a version with some features extra or some features missing.

Is it ... Japan gets the best with all the features, including turn signals in mirrors, 8inch screen (no 11inch option), all physical buttons, 360 camera, Toyota online services with GPS location for free.

In Europe we get everything but turn signals in mirrors.

In NA it's no electrically folding mirrors, 11inch abomination (I really do not like the screen), non adaptive headlights, no 360 camera, online services you have to pay after a period of time.

To me all of this sounds incredibly unfair (and it's probably not accurate, even if I really tried to research this issue).
I would hope new model would to bring equally good Primes for every country - they are, after all, made in the same factory in Japan.

As disclaimer: I currently drive Corolla Hatchback hybrid and two more, endless, months I have to wait for my Prime delivery. So any information I was able to soak so far was purely theoretical

 

Another nice punishment is the omission of the headlight auto mode (only in the US though where it's not mandatory like it's in the rest of the world). Price advantage for Toyota for omitting that feature is most likely $0.

I am from Czech republic. I created an account few days ago, but I am reading this forum for quite a while as I am preparing for my Prime to arrive.

Memory seats I would love as well. My wife is quite shorter than me, and presets for seats and mirrors would be much appreciated.

It's a shame you can't really order X or Y configuration of the Prius Prime as it seems it would be a non-issue for anyone in the manufacturing chain - they already have those configurations ready, they are producing them in the same factory, just make up the price sticker and done

Even through I got my Corolla fully noise dampened, windows wrapped in some ceramic UV films, I can't wait to get my hands on Prime
BTW: Those thermal films are quite effective, and I will most likely have them installed on the Prius as well. It was not even all that expensive, around €200 for all the windows, and it is a godsend in summer.

 

In the EU, do you get the solar roof, fast charging, v2h ability? I think these are Japan only. I also checked out Toyota Japan's website, looks like the white interior and wireless charging mobile phone pad is not available in Japan.

The 11in screen issue, shitty entune, and Canada's lack of connectivity services is consistent with Toyota and other Japanese companies deprioritization of software development. Cmon, look at how long it took Toyota to get Carplay and Andriod Auto onto any of the Toyota cars. the 11in screen Carplay is crap too, there are resolution scaling issues and the inability to adjust voice guidance in Carplay itself like 99% of all other Carplay implementations out there. I guess that this is something most of the auto industry is bad at, but it seems like Toyota's half-assing it here. Toyota IMO probably cares less about ergonomics, software, and user interfaces than the rest of the Japanese manufacturers. Mazda is probably the best for a Japanese car manufacturer in terms of ergonomics, software and user interfaces. With Toyota's negative opinion on BEVs, I think Toyota is becoming a bit of a Luddite.

 

2022 Prius Prime is starting to show up in US dealers now. The question is, is Toyota going to extend the same rebate deal on 2022 models which is essentially the same car as the 2021 models AFAIK.

 

- I am sadly not sure of v2h ability (TBH, I had to Google it to even find out what it means) + spec. inconsistency you can find on Czech site is not helping either. For example, in one description there are mentioned directional lights in mirrors but in photos you can't see them, and you can't see them in the Prius PHEV catalogue as well.
- I can confirm 100% we do not get faster charging as well (that's probably Japan exclusive).
- Solar roof I could order as an upgrade, but it would lose HUD, proximity sensors, better speakers and some other features. I would love to have a solar roof, but it has too many downsides ... all the tech probably does not fit the Prius body all at once.

TBH I never used Qi charging in my car but white interior I really dig and that is the one I ordered (blue, white seats, white ... half white interior).
I am so glad I was able to "retrofit" Android Auto/Apple Car play in my 2019 Corolla at my dealer shop ... it cost me three hours of my life, but it was worth it ... and I had my laptop with me, so I at least was able to work most of the time.
