All, I have a gen 3 with 245K and my engine is gone. Deciding if I should buy a used engine or have my original rebuilt. I would prefer to purchase a remanufactured engine but don't know where. Any suggestions would be appreciated!!!
Not against policy. Please post good and bad resellers, or any experience worth sharing. Pretty hit or miss from what I've read over the years, as many don't always stand behind their used products or warranties. Best to do your own due diligence before purchase and during pickup, no one wants to return a bad engine or do an install twice. I've mostly heard good things about http://lkqonline.com/ - though your mileage may vary.
I tracked down the local LKQ trying to save the shipping and got quoted a price literally twice what I was seeing on eBay from the same company.
Yeah, be sure to also check their listings on https://car-part.com as the pricing may vary once again.
Hope you find one OP. From what I can see, the OEM replacement is discontinued without a replacement and is no longer available 19000-37460 - Genuine Toyota ENGINE ASSEMBLY,PARTIAL
Can we get an idea what is fair? Does someone maintain a spreadsheet of the going rates? In my case, I'm replacing the engine in a 2011 Prius, a Gen 3, and I'm located in Kansas City, MO. Obviously, I'm looking to get the best deal I can, and trying to make this engine swap as easy as possible. What is a fair price range?
Have you thought about looking into a gen 4 engine to put into you Prius? There are vids here and it looks very do able and the prices on engines are cheaper!!! Just google it! That is what I will do if and when it becomes new engine time! Good luck!,
Hard to say, i've seen gen3 pricing from 700 to over 2k. Many think they are sitting on gold, others have lower miles at decent prices. Some will show pics of the odometer, and if you can get the VIN then you can run that and check the recent mileage and see if it rhymes. Not sure about fair, as few if any will cover the labor to do the job over when they unintentionally (?) sell you a bad motor. https://www.hybrid911.com claims to sell (and install) rebuilt motors, but I have no idea what that actually means, could be just a new head gasket and water pump, etc. Not sure if they offer shipping from southern CA. There is always the gen4 option like @Sftbldad mentioned.

Car dealers? NONE. Used Engine dealers? YMMV, but generally speaking there are some that offer a decent quality product at a fair price.
Yeah maybe start a fresh thread. a little dismaying: 3rd gen is essentially the “grenading engine” gen. my moneys on a 3-letter acronym as the culprit, but that’s for another day.
