I have a 08 touring, recently the water pump inverter went out and the vehicle will not start at all, the cluster is black, horn, lights and power doors work thats it, my mechanic is literally across the street from me, other than using those tire dollies or tow (this is a dumb idea being across the street), I have a feeling those tire dollies are just for really short distance moving like within a garage, crossing a street with cars will be another matter lol
There's a range of dollies. Some have really small caster wheels and are only fit to be used on smooth garage floors. Others have larger wheels and rubber tires and can even be used on highways. You may be able to disconnect the water pump, replace the fuse it blew, and get the car into ready mode so you can disengage the park lock to get it across the street.
Specifically, look at the AM2 fuse under the hood, drivers side (map on the underside of the fuse box cover). More than likely that is the reason your dashboard is dark and the car won't start.
There are probably plenty of decent smart mechanics who don't happen to know about the connector next to the fuse box for unhooking the pump so it won't blow AM2, and if they don't know about that, their other awesome mechanic skills are not going to start the car or drive it across the street. This might be one case where PriusChat readers have an advantage over most mechanics, because that's such an obscure and vehicle-specific weird thing to happen to know about.
Thank you, i already tried this and it did not work, what i didnt do is unplug the water pump and see if it will let me engage in neutral.
Right, before replacing an AM2 fuse that has blown because of a short in the inverter water pump, you must disconnect that pump or it will just blow again and you will be back where you started. The car can be driven for short distances without a functioning inverter water pump.
Thank you, yes I unhooked the water pump , put in a new am2 fuse and at least the cluster turned , didnt check if it will run as it was 115f outside lol, , next step plan on installing that water pump my self , looks easy enough on youtube videos.
I used the shift lock override button to put it in neutral to move it while the batteries are disconnected. I could feel and hear a clunky noise in the front axles which was concerning, but it moves. What would that noise be? Could it be causing harm?
You are asking the wrong people as the 2nd Gen Prius does not have a lock override button, you should try asking your fellow Prius c owners over in one of the Prius c forums. If I had to guess, the sound you heard was the parking pawl forcefully being withdrawn from the lock position. As long as it came out fully there should be no adverse ramifications of that action.
