Here is the install of the LED Strip lights added to '21 PRIME. Yes I added more lights This is simple and cheap install Remove the seal from the headlight. Clean the where the LED strip goes with alcohol and install the LED strip. Install the seal back ontop of the LED Strip. Install the wiring as follows, the red wire to the fuse box empty slot where 12v is switch on, black wire to ground and yellow wire to back of turn signal wire connector. This is the LED strip on as DRL.Not too noticeable during the day but boy it looks great at night. I will post the night pics later.
Thanks for sharing, I've just brought from eBay for $12/pair (Flexible Car Soft Tube Guide LED Strip Lamp DRL Daytime Running Light Ultra-thin | eBay) and installed mine today too. Connected to the headlight module's harness. Took about 2 hours.
I've been a LONG time lurker and I just made an account to thank you for this writeup. Looks like you also have a Prius Prime Plus, have you installed footwell lights? I've been trying to find a way to install keyless smart entry to the front right passenger and rear trunk for the longest time.
I've already traded-in to a 2021 XLE, it already has the footlight and smart entry I want, so no need to do anymore extra work. Try sell it to Carvana, their quote is very competitive.
which led light strip did you get ? there was no paper with instructions ? One of the 2 either white or green is for the turn signal and only other thing i can think of for the other color wire is DRL (day time running light) RED - constant 12v Black- Ground White- Green-
After installed it for a week, I have to disconnect it. I realized it is interfering the turn signal and sometimes it disabled the turn signal if I don't have the head light on. I am researching if I need to add some diode for both the DLR and yellow turn signal.
@citiprius I have not noticed it interrupting the signal on the car, I will check again. Looking at the my video clips I have 3 different sets of signal and looks like there is no issues. I did not hook up the wire to the headlight harness, I hooked the red wire to fuse box, black to ground and the yellow to the signal lamp wire. So the white LED is on all the time whether with headlights off or on. I suspect that might be your issue is where you hooked up the red wire.
@Johnincali Is there link to the product that you bought or is there a wiring diagram? I don't know if the green wire is for function of DRL (day time running lights) I would test on a car battery or power supply (write down what lights up) as following, Hookup the black wire to the ground/black wire of car, then connect red wire to positive/red wire of battery. Disconnect the red and then try the other color wires and note what lights up. Then when you are done with the individual wires, now with the black wire still attach to negative terminal, connect red and white together and hook that to the positive side/red wire of battery. That should light the white LEDS. Then take white wire off and connect together with the yellow wire of the LED lights and connect that to the battery. That should light the signal LEDs.
I just looked at your other post which has the wiring and there is no mention of a yellow wire. And the pic that you posted above there is no yellow wire there. So according to the pic that you provided, the red wire goes to fuse box spot that has power when key is on only, black wire goes to ground, white is for DRL/white leds which goes to your DRL lights (if you want them on during the day) or can hook to regular headlights (which will come only when headlights are on), and the green wire will go to the turn signal wire.
@chickenhawk Recently got my prius prime and tried to install the LED strip light. Which fuse spot did you hook up the red wire to? For some reason, my turn signal sequential does not flow smoothly. Sometimes it stops midway and resets to catch up with the blinker. However, it works perfectly fine when hooked up to the battery. @citiprius did you ever figured out the interference with the turn signal?
If you purchase the LED blinker/winker strip with daytime running light, then the blinker/winker will not sync up. You have to purchase the LED blinker ONLY and that will sync up to your turn signal.
