Just got back a couple of days ago...............from Captiva. We flew down to Miami to take a look at UM and then drove a rental over to our house on the island. My sister-in-law drove her own vehicle down from Chicago to Captiva with my daughter making a few sightseeing stops along the way. When it appeared that the storm was definitely headed somewhat in our direction, we decided to drive the rental back to Chicago rather than chance getting stuck in the Miami airport on Saturday. Uh, that was good since we would have wound up stuck on the island without food, water, power, and no way to drive out of there.
We came through pretty much OK. Blocked in the neighborhood for 3 days because of downed trees. I lost lots of shingles and had some water damage but otherwise things are good. We got our power back only seven hours after the storm, however a half a block down they still have no power. It will be a long time for phone and cable so I'm doing this from work. Hope everyone else is good. We had sustained winds of 95mph with gusts to 105!!
