    Hi All,

Whenever I am back into my parking spot ( which is a bit elevated ) I usually have my foot on the brake so I can stop and maneuver the wheel. Whenever I do so, I hear a creaking sound that comes whenever I turn the wheel from one end to the other, the front creaks a bit while the back creaks significantly louder.

Any ideas what this could be? Every mechanic says the car looks okay but this sound doesn't sound normal and that there are no points where Priuses can get lubricated (unlike older cars)

An FYI, I hear NO sounds whenever turning regularly (without foot on brake)

    Thank you!

    maybe just rusty brakes.
try running up to 30mph on a quiet road and throw her in neutral. gently apply brakes to burn off the rust.
then try parking to see if there's any change in sound

    how many miles on her?

is there any sound if you back up and brake at the same speed without turning the wheel?

Bisco, I love how I know you'll reply! You are always so helpful.

Unfortunately, I have tried that so many times. I even had the front brakes replaced and it is still there. The creak happens when I have my foot on the brake and I turn my wheel from one side to the other. I had the brakes inspected and 3 mechanics say they are fine.

Also, I only hear the sound when I'm on some sort of incline, decline

Some folks are saying its normal for the Prius to creak when foot is on brake and turning but....I want to put this to rest and not pay for services that aren't required. I already spent 800 trying to nix this sound..

i'll try it myself. i know mine does creak as i press and release the brake pedal at slow speeds.

i have always assumed it is the pads grabbing and releasing. it seems impossible to hold a constant pressure.

Try it on an inclined driveway of sorts. I press the brake firmly and turn the wheel from one end to the other and once there is a bit of resistance, there is some creaky noises. If I turn left, I hear it on the right side. Vice versa.

hang on, you are holding the brake so the car isn't moving?

and it only creaks when you get to the stop limit of the steering wheel?

okay, got it. that's not the brakes then. maybe the steering mechanism, but it could be normal. i'll check mine.
with regular power steering, you get a hiss at the end stops

    For sure, thanks Bisco.

Again, this mostly occurs if I am coming out of a parking spot that is either on an incline or decline. Never, if rarely, does it happen when I am on a regular road. My dad just told me I may be pulling the calipers when the brakes are being locked in and that isn't good for any car....so maybe I am just an idiot. lol.

if you are turning the steering wheel while not moving, that isn't good for the tires. causes wear as they are spun on the asphalt

Update: The brakes had metallic pads and rotors. They should be ceramic. Also low brake fluid. Sound is gone!

Wrong type of pads and rotors and low brake fluid. Funny enough - Chicago Toyota said they had redone the brakes and service before I bought the car. Idiots.

The idiots at Northside Toyota in Chicago told me they serviced brakes and brake fluid prior to me getting the car. Such morons. Such a great reputable car company and their dealers are absolute morons.

they called me asking to take my car back - offered me 1,000 less than I paid and asked if I wanted to lease a 2021 Corolla....with a check engine light on.
